Hello Campers, I just purchased a 27UL about a month ago. (used 2011 model) I have had several campers previously both regular campers and Toyhaulers. This is my first Work and Play. I went this route because I have learned to hate the EPM Rubber roofs on others I have owned. UV eats them up after a few years even after putting treatments on them every 6 months or so - so when I took a look at the work and play one peice aluminum roof I was ready to switch.
I have a 2006 Dodge 5.9 to pull it with but wanted to still keep weight light (mine is about 7300lbs pretty good for a 5th wheel!) so I went with the Ultra Lite series.
Now once I got it home and started personalizing it I wanted to hang some wall mounted baskets to hold riding gear etc. (I had done this previously with another toyhauler and it worked out great!) But before I did that I started to install a elec water heater element (Hot-Rod).
That's when I noticed that the walls were not solid plywood!
I could see that they had a styrofoam inner layer - I guess this is the difference in the Ultra Lite series trailers vs standard W&P. The walls have a 1/4" outer wood layer that the fiberglass is bonded to on the outside and a 1/4" layer in the inside with the styrofoam sandwiched in-between.
Dosen't seem to be as structuraly strong as the standard W&P plywood walls. (although the styro bonded walls look to be about an inch thick.)
Finally after all that lead up -
my questions to any of you with vast W&P knowledge: - Are the Ultra Lite trailers built with wall studs? Like as in aluminum frame?
- And if so how would you suggest someone locate these frame studs?
Anyway - I like the design - mine is pretty arodynamic with that horse-trailer type nose - Im getting about 14mpg on level gound if I keep her around 65 or less.
Opinions and reocmmendations welcome - and please, please reply if you know anything about the wall construction and have experence with mounting screws in the ultra lite walls.
