Walking On The Roof

Hi,
I'm planing to buy a used 2008 Work and Play 34RL in the next week or so; I was wondering if anyone knew if it is safe to walk on the roof on these units. I weigh in the range of 275 -300 so I don't want to damage the roof if I can help it. I like to keep an eye on vent chalking for cracks; etc. as well as cover the AC when we are not using the camper. Thanks for any advice.

There is no other way to properly clean and service componants up there, unless you get up there. I'm "large frame" as well, and was your weight for many years.... The roof seeems to hold me fine, but the factory ladders, and their roof attachment points are made for the 'little people".... I'd pad a decent ladder with an old blanket, and use that for access/egress.

Agreed....
I'd be more worried about the oem ladder!

The factory video of the Work and Play assembly line shows a thin sheet of luan plywood 4' wide under the aluminum roofing and on top of the steel cross braces. Take a look and you can get an idea of what you are stepping on.

Seems strong enough especially if you use a 4x4 sheet of 1/4" plywood in the area you are working on...
