Work and Play 30FLA

I am looking at a Work and Play 30FLA. It has a very heavy tongue weight that with the gen will be about 2000 lbs. The tow vehicle is a 2500 HD Diesel. I dont want to buy the RV just to end up a nervous wreck everytime I pull it any distance. Is there anyone out there with a similar combination that can give me some feedback on the handling?

I think your TW is wrong. I have a 30WR with a tongue box with four deep cycle batteres, 30lb propane bottles and my TW measured in at 1350lbs... with one Full Dress Harley in the back... Adding a generator to the rack would not add that much weight...

According to specs the FLA TW is 1063 lbs dry...

The hitch weight is 1538lbs without the 5500 gen.

That's quite a descrepency from the factory specs. If true I doubt if you will find a Class V hitch rated that high. When I upgraded my hitch to 1600lb TW and 160000 Gross there was only one higher.

Have you actually weighed the TW? When I took mine to the scales it made a big difference on the anlgle of the trailer when weighing, so weighing at towing height is important.

Where did you get those specs? I was looking at FR's website and the Tongue was the 1583. and the Fresh water taks are 110 on all of the Work and Plays.

I just did a search for that model and found several sites that showed the 1063 TW, but I also just checked a Forest River site and see what you are talking about. I am thinking it's a mis-print. Your model 30FLA is the only trailer with that high of a hitch weight. I would check with FR in person and see what they say about the discrepancy.

As far as the water tanks go my 2011 30WR is 80 gals but they could have upgraded to larger tanks for 2013.

If it turns out that the TW is accurate. I found that Curt sells a Comercial grade hitch that takes a wopping 2700lbs of TW... That said I don't think your 2500 Chevy will handle the kind of TW you are talking. If the TW turns out be accurate you could go with a portable generator and put it in the back to get the TW down. Interested on hearing what FR says about the TW...
