We just finished the first part of our winter trip South, with 5500 miles on our trip. We traveled from Montana to upstate Wisc., down to Rockford, IL and across country to Deer Valley, AZ we are averaging 10 mpg with our 2009 1500 Suburban. The worst highway we had was I 80 across Iowa and Nebraska. Lots of truck traffic. We drive at 55 to 60, and were passed by everything. I found that the trucks coming up behind us that had the big wind deflector on top and the side curtains didn't bother us, but the trucks that didn't have that equipment did. One gets used to it, and can anticipate what is going to happen. I don't like to bring up tires, but our Westlake tires have 16,000 miles on them, and we haven't had any problems. I keep the at 55 psi, have a TPMS and try to keep the trailer weight down. So far, it has worked. I checked the wear, with the new spare and have used about 1/3 of the tread depth.

Good to hear the feedback on the Westlakes and like you I have a TPMS. I keep mine at 50 - 52 psi cold.

What is the weight, BTW?

Our trailer empty weight is 6000 lbs. and we carry less than 1000 lbs payload. The only time we are over that is when we have some fresh water in the tank. We usually empty our grey and black tanks before we leave the RV park. We don't dry camp, but choose to stay in RV parks.

I have been wanting to change out our Westlake tires and replace with the Kumhos 857; 195R14. Went to order from TireRack and found out that size is discontinued. With only 2" to top of fender and 1 1/2" between tires, I didn't want to go to the 205R14.. Good news is that I found some Hankooks RA08 in 195R14 that were mfd July this year.Got them on order............BTW, they are rated to carry 2200# each and speed rated to 99mph, 8 ply..

thank you all for your replies. I will pick up my new 27rlws in 3 weeks, I will tow it 300 miles home. I will know then if the ram 1500 works or if I will be making a trip to the dealership. The new Silverados are nice, maybe a 2500HD with the 6.2 auto and 3:73 gears.

I have a 27rlws and tow with a Silverado 1500 5.3 v-8 and 3:73. It tows great with my truck and would be even better with what you are considering, you won't know it's there! Love my 2014 Silverado and 27rlws. Picked up the trailer this spring and put it storage a few weeks ago with not one issue. Haven't seen the dealer since I bought it. Of course next year when warranty is expired is when my issues will probably show up, that's my luck.

Ouch...down to 20° today and for the next few days. Glad we got the TT winterized a few weeks ago.

Right now the temperature is just above freezing and my trailer is in covered storage not winterized. I am hoping I suffer no failures. Have never done so in the past 5 years where the winter temps occasionally hit the freeze mark a couple of times a winter. I like to keep the trailer ready to camp, that's why I have been hesitant about winterizing.

It took me about 15 minutes to winterize and 3 gallons of anti freeze. We were thinking of thanksgiving camping as it takes nothing more than installing the water heater anode and rinse out the antifreeze. The Temps are coming up to around 40/50's.

Just put mine in winter storage this past Saturday and had a small problem.

This is the second year we have stored it with this family. They are farmers and rent out space in their large barn in the winter for RVs and boats. They weren't home when I dropped it off so I left it parked outside the barn. When he was pulling it in with his truck, one of the tires went flat. He said it looks like a sharp rock was lodged in the tread (the drive outside the barn is gravel) and punctured the tire. He offered to put on the spare and take it to a local tire place he knows to have it patched for free.

I told him to just put on the spare and leave it on until I pick it up in a few months. I'll pick it up and have new Maxxis tires put on all the way around, including the spare. These are the original tires, but I never checked the date. We have put about 5,000 miles or so on them and have owned the trailer (a 2013) for about a year and a half. I was already considering replacing the tires anyway before we take a two week trip next summer. I have heard too many horror stories about the "China bombs" and for $500 out the door, I don't see any reason not to put on new Maxxis tires.

This guy has been nothing but honest in my dealings with him, so I do believe the tire failed for whatever reason. He keeps my battery up during the winter and stores my trailer inside for only $70 a month. With the winter we had last year (80+ inches of snow and multiple ice storms), I think it's worth it.

Just picked up my New 27 LRWS on sat, Towed it 400 miles with my 2012 ram 1500 with no problems, have an EZ Lift WDH and Sway bar set up. Put it under the RV Port with 2 inches to spare. Some notable changes, the front is now a molded gel cap with integrated led lights and no Diamond plate, looks Awsome, Kitchen Faucet is different as well, also blue led lights in the fridge, looks very cool.and redesigned interior in the fridge. I will try to upload pics this weekend. Can't wait until memorial day. Also the couch is now a fold out bed instead of the inflable type mattress.

A molded gel cap on the front? Sounds great but did they delete the front window?

Please post some pictures.

The front window is still there, it is recessed. The LED lights are superior to the front hitch light previously used. I will post pics soon.

Thank's for the news. They are actually good news. We are looking at getting one next year and the inflatable mattress was the only issue my wife had. Waiting for some pictures and congratulations for your new TT.

Smile 27RLWS wannabe

I am strongly leaning towards a new 27RLWS Emerald. I believe this layout and size is appealing to us. I have not been aboard this model yet as the closest dealer is about 200 miles away. However, I like what I see and have spent some time garnering info from this group. THANKS ! I currently own a 2007 Sunline Solaris 28' TT (outta business) and it is quality built trailer.

I have noticed a few 27RLWS units (2015) with the molded fiberglass front cap which FR used on some of the Flagstaff Classic units as far back as 2011. Is this new for the 27RLWS? Hope so. I like it.

My concern. I would like to have a small easy chair with ottoman to be used at the end of the kitchen counter instead of the heavy countertop extension. I currently have such a chair in my Sunline and us old people need a little comfort. Just can't see myself enjoying TV from the HAB sofa and/or booth style dinette too often. I think it would be doable when the opposing slides are open. Does anyone know what amount of floor space remains between the slides in the travel mode? That may be the show stopper. Just doing my research.

Thanks for your help.

We have a 2014 27RLWS and I have a small recliner that I use at the end of the counter. We have the U-shaped dinette and I just set the recliner in between the seats of the dinette and put the table, top down, on top of the chair and the dinette seats. This works very well and we have had no problems doing this. It seems to travel very well.

The molded end cap must be very new. We have a Rockwood 2703WS, which has been identical to the Flagstaff, that came off the line 7/31/14 and it still has the old style front cap.
