Ok somewhere in this string that is too long long to read anymore is a post about skirting coming off. So we are ready to depart on a long cross 6 states and 3 provinces trip and I notice the caulking on the strip of skirting in front of the door is all coming off. Obviously it's flexing while driving. Glad I saw it before we set out. The screws holding the skirting too the wall where 5 feet aperture. The aluminum brackets underneath where 6 feet apart. So I added 2 more brackets and more screws. Will need to touch up the caulking later but at least I won't be loosing or damaging the skirting.

That was me.....in the first hour of ownership. That is the same section that I lost. You are headed down the right road. Additional brackets solved the problem.

Saw a Flagstaff that had survived a NY to CA to NY in 2008 with the skirting cracked along the slideout. When I got home I made a reinforcement with a flange welded to it and installed on the front and rear of the slideout of our new 2008 Flagstaff. When we traded it in for the 2012 5er, I removed the reinforcements and re-installed on our 5er. Our oldest son tig welded the reinforcements.

Well thanks, even though I could not find the post the memory of it came in very helpful.

Any idea what type of caulking to use. I amd running out of time before the trip and can patch that up later.

That looks like a great mod to eliminate the flex in the skirting. I will have to find someone that can tig weld.

I just went to Home Depot and bought a tube of brown silicone for eavestroughs. Color was real close to original, and has been on for 2 years with no issues.

I may be paranoid about this but after losing my last trailer, I would rather be safe than sorry. The door in between the bedroom and the hallway looks to be separating from the wall. Is this a common happening ? Can I fix myself and be done with it or should I take it in to be looked at someone else?

Flexco Step problem

We had one of the aluminum rivets shear in the first couple of months of ownership. I replaced it with a bolt, and there were no further issues. Then this past weekend this happened.

Now I have to admit that this was a result was a result of a very large person (my wife's oldest son, 6'3 and 350 lbs.) using the unit.

I guess my concern is how I am going to brace this part so it doesn't happen again? My wife invites her son's family to camp with us EVERY time we go out. For three years now.

Find a pc of solid rod that will fit in the tube and then re-weld the tube. Make sure the solid rod goes thru the entire length of the tube. Also replace ALL the rivets with gr 8 bolts and nyloc nuts.

That same thing happened to our steps. I'm also a big guy (6'6", 345 pounds) and they broke when I was going down them once. I just had them replaced with new steps that are more sturdy.

Thanks OC! Yep, did that yesterday, ground off all the rivets as well, drilled them all out to 5/16", and replaced with grade 5 bolts and nyloc. The one rivet I replaced last year with a 1/4" gr 5 bolt showed no sign of wear, so I think I should be OK with the larger bolts. I also have ordered the Stromberg Carlson Stabil-Step Jack for bottom step support (#JSS-4 with 4.75"-7.75" adjustment)

Slympicins

Has anybody heard what happened to him. He used to be on here all the time, and shared some very useful information for several years. Doesn't appear to have posted since Aug. 2015.

Has anyone had a problem with water leaking in by the window by the kitchen sink? We were finding water on the counter, which has begun to wrap, after it rained and we finally used a hose to squirt water on that window and found out that is where water is leaking in. Do we just need to caulk around the window? On the inside or the outside? We are not quite sure where on the window it is coming in.

Never had a leak there. I would silicone the outside of the window. Don't need water in the walls.

Just finished 2000 mile trip and after arriving home noticed all the lines under kitchen/sofa slide hanging down. The lippert "Flexguard" is cracked and all the line holders are broken off. I have orderd a new one but have a question. Do the lines wrap around outside of flexguard or inside? Mine are all broken off but it appears the lines go on outside of radius. If anyone knows or can take a look at their 27rlws I would appreciate it. At least it waited till I got home in driveway before breaking!

Good timing as we are heading out in the AM, and had my slides out for lubrication of gear and track.

The lines run around the rear of the flexguard and are held in place by 4 line holders which are plastic gadgets with holes in them for the lines to pass through. One at each end and two in the centre to hold the bulk of the weight of the lines.

Hope that helps. Was kinda dark under there for a cel phone pic.

That's interesting the lines are on the inside of the flex guard in that picture. I've already made a repair putting them on the
outside per devilscreekw. Thanks.
