27RLWS Awning Size

Hi! New to this forum, but not new to camping. My husband and I have been looking to purchase the Flagstaff 27RLWS. We love everything about it - the layout, the quality, the size, the storage. It basically has everything we are looking for in an extended stay RV. However, the only downside - and it may just be us! - that we see is the size of the awning.

With one slideout on the entry door side, it takes away from total usage of the awning. We're thinking that a picnic table would have to go to the right of the entry door, and that space is really tight for a standard 6 ft. picnic table.

I realize this is not the most critical of issues, but since we enjoy eating and spending alot of time outdoors while camping, it is important to us that we can utilize the awning.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do with the picnic table? Thanks!

What Version 27rls. Also we usually use an easy up screened in next to the awning with a table for eating and set picnic table up for table top grill.

The awning is 17ft long so for us there is lots of room. That said we do not put the CG picnic table under the awning..

I am not sure what you mean by "to the right of the entry door" since that depends on whether you are outside facing the door or inside looking out, but assuming you are outside and facing the door then to the right means forward of the entry door. Either way you shouldn't be able get a 6ft picnic table completely under the awning either side of the stairs UNLESS you turn the picnic table at with seats at 90 degrees to the RV. Even then it could be tight. That said, I cannot prove that because I am not at my RV at present.

It sounds like this is potentially a deal breaker and that would be shame because it is a great floor plan. I do have a 12' x 12' Coleman Instant Canopy which is excellent and provides a great adjunct to out awning. It fits a picnic table with ease.

I also have a small folding picnic table with 4 seats that I had from my popup days that is great and fits under the awning along with our reclining lounge chairs and small folding tables. I weigh 210# and am 5'-8" and the DW is smaller and we fit this picnic table.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It pretty much validated what we had been thinking all along. Unfortunately, it may be a deal breaker despite the great floor plan because we do spend most of the time outdoors - weather permitting. Glad you are all enjoying your camper. Keep on camping!

The DW and I have that same model. We back the TT to where the slide out just passes the concrete slab. The CG picnic table fits perfectly under the awning. We have looked for over a year and a half and settled on the emerald 27RLWS. The floor plan is perfect.
We also spend time outdoors and with the 17' awning we find plenary of room. Don't let this be a deal breaker. It's works great during good and bad weather. Good luck with your adventure.

bkjones also asked this question in the Rockwood section for the Rockwood 2703WS. Does anybody have pictures with the CG picnic table under the awning since that's where we normally put the table with our current Roo.

Will have a few next weekend. First day of spring and the news said we could have snow in the mountains next week. Okay I'm over the snow and ready for some warmer air.

I am interested in your pics too. Am always interested in real-world pics of other 27RLWSs actually camping.

I have the V Lite 30 wrls lots of storage and an awning that is 22 ft long that covers both doors so lots of outdoor space. Lots of indoor space with 2 slides for those cold rainy days and a large picture window that covers the whole back of the camper so even when your inside it feels like your outside.

Yes, I did post the same question on the Rockwood forum because we are also considering the 2703WS. Obviously same issue for both products. Interesting to see similar answers. We would also be interested in seeing some real-life, in action pictures of the awning open and a 6ft picnic table under it somewhere!! I guess I can't understand why manufacturers can't give me a TT with everything I want, that's not 35 ft. long and weighs 8000 lbs. Frustrating! Thanks for all the feedback. We will soldier on until we find one. Need to make a decision by the end of this week to be ready in time for the season -aack! It'll happen.

Not surprised since there is no slide on the curbside as is the case with the 27RLWS, where the 17' awning goes up to the slide.

Wmoses, if you have your trailer stored at home, maybe you could get a measurement from the hinge side of the door to the front awning arm?

bkjones, have a look at the picture link in Wmoses' signature. They don't have a picnic table there but it may give you a better idea of the scale. Don't be rushed into making a choice you'll regret later!

Actually the trailer is about 5 miles away at a storage lot. If I remember net time I am there (should be sometime this weekend) I will get the dimension. Meanwhile here is another photo. For a dimensional reference the stair is about 2' wide and the mat is 9' x 12'.

I agree 1000% about not rushing into a decision. I shopped long and hard and came up with this trailer that had everything we need and in a lighter package, and it is great value for money. I understand where the OP is coming from but there ain't no way in heck I'd let this picnic under awning issue be a show stopper. But that is just me.

No problem. I will have some pics uploaded the 29th. Hopefully Mother Nature will comply for the first of the season camping. We are looking forward to a great time (without the snow).

Where we're going has the cement tables on the pad, I usually use a 10' easy up over it. I always use the easy up and use the awning for sitting area

27RLWS Awning Size

Take a look at this new RV park here on Douglas Lake that opened this month. TVA will get the water levels as we get closer to the summer. They keep the levels low in the winter.
