Cool 90 day tune-up on new purchase

My new 2014 V-lite 30WIKSS is approaching a scheduled "Tune-up" date that was set by the dealer at the time I took delivery. This said dealer is about 2 hrs from my home. I have had no problems with this great FR unit. Should I still take it in ? Do they really go over the entire unit to make sure everything is top-notch ? I don't want to make the drive but wonder if they check things that maybe I'm not aware of. What do you guys think ?

Maybe call the service manager and ask them for a list of what is checked and inspected. Me personally, I'd probably make the trip anyway and make a day out of it maybe, camp somewhere on the way home.

But, I can see your reasoning behind it too. I'd ask for a checklist of what is inspected and done and go from there.

A "Tune up" appointment is new to me but sounds useful. Any chance you could reschedule it for later on? Using the camper is one of the best test I know.

I would say if done by a dealer it would help with an extended warrantee.

How much is the dealer going to charge? If not bad then I would go for it and spend an extra day or so camping.

For one thing, the seals on slideouts shold be inspected every 90 days (according to a sticker on mine), and they can check for anything that became loosened, or that fell off, etc. It can also help with the relationship with the service staff - important if you ever do really need to go back to them to fix a real problem.

Forest River offers the first ninety days for "adjustments" on items such as awning tension, slide-out adjustments, etc. After ninety days, you pay for it! I was not aware of this and they refused to adjust the slide-out awning tension.

It sounds like a churn work for the Dealer if nothing is wrong. the Dealer turns in a work list to FR and gets reimbursed and you are out the time/fuel and may have nothing wrong.

Ask them what they are too 'check' and then decide what to do.

Thanks for all the input. Thinking I will take it in (as someone pointed out...while it's free). Maybe I'll drop it off in the morning and go truck shopping. Seems everyone with a large TT has a 2500 and it's time for me to upgrade

After you get the bigger truck.... then you can pull a bigger trailer.

Bigarm, brother les is correct. Bought a big TT and then upgraded the truck to a Dodge 2500 6.7 cummins. Find myself gravitating to the 5ers now. Still very happy with my 27RLWS as it has a great floor plan for two. DON'T by a new truck!!! Plenty of great deals on used trucks out there. I landed a 2013 Dodge Ram 4X4 2500 crew Laramie with 12k miles and got a fantastic deal. The guy who bought it new paid huge dollars (thank you) and I made out on the deal. Still smells like new and have the full warrantee.
Good luck.
