advice on rear view camera
Hello everyone, We are getting a new 29rsws (ksws for 2018). I want a rear view camera. The dealer wants $400 for a Furrion. Should I buy this one or does someone have experience with a cheaper one that will fit the Furrion bracket.

i'm pretty sure you can get the Furrion on Amazon for 350ish. Still expensive but save 50 bucks doing a piece of cake install yourself.

Congrats on your new camper. I have the same, 2018 29ksws. Did you buy the camera and does it help? I want to get one, but life seems to get in the way of buying one.

We got the Furrion for our Flagstaff 5er and love it. Since yours is wired for it the simplicity of installation and the quality might make it worth the extra bucks. I find that it helps more with changing lanes than backing up. Just this week bought a dash mount holder as the original was not that good and eventually broke.
Have fun.

We purchased the Furrion observation camera on ebay for $299 a week or so ago. Excellent product for day use. I still need to work out some quirks for night use. If you mount it on the dash, it's too bright at night. You can turn down the brightness but as soon as you power off the vehicle it defaults to the original setting.
Even so, I love it, especially for changing lanes with a 50' long rig. Since my Roo was prewired, it took about 10 min to install.

Is there some kind of bean bag mount for something like that? I don't want to be screwing stuff or gluing stuff to dash of my new truck.

What kind of mount did you get?
The suction cup worked good for the first trip. Its flimsy but no experience after that.

My dash is too textured for suction, windshield too far, and i don't want to stick anything to dash for suction to grip on to. I really liked my Garmin bean bag mount back when portable GPS was the thing to have.

I used a pop socket for a cell phone and mounted it to the dash. Easy to remove.
Here is what I used:

I removed the mount and put a suction cup to replace the dock in its place. I suction cup it to the rear view mirror. I am used to looking there. Of you put it to the side you don't even have to remove it when camping and can still see in the rear view.

Here is where I mounted it with pop-socket.

I put mine on the rear view mirror since you can't see anything behind you anyway. Works fine but just barely fits.

RVS over Furrion
Hello - Just saw your post on recommendations for Furrion or others. I posted the below back in July after doing the same analysis. Since then, I have used the system several times, and it is reliable, consistent, and does what it's supposed to do. It works great at high speeds too. Have tested up to 75mph. No issues. My post below still applies. I strongly recommend this over any competitive brand.
After much research and returning the Furrion unit, I decided to go with RVS systems. Specifically the RVS-155W with Furrion adaptor. It has a 5" color monitor, waterproof camera, and is wireless. As compared with the Furrion, it is or appears to be: higher quality, heavier duty, larger & better picture, never loses reception nor ghosts, and greater camera adjustability. I am happy with the unit. No issues. I would recommend this unit to others who have not decided yet, or have also experienced issues with Furrion. This one is less expensive too and has great customer service. I say great customer service as I initially had a problem with limited adjustment range of the camera due to the fixed Furrion bracket and antenna sticking out the back. I called and they said "no problem" and sent me a free upgraded antenna with cable attachment.
And no, I did not receive a free product nor work for the Company! Just a satisfied customer. Hope this helps others.

OKMechanic and Dbledan, your monitor placement makes perfect sense. Any details on how you held it onto the rear view mirror would be appreciated, particularly the suction cup idea Dbledan.

Sportbikenut, can we see a few pics of your install on the Furrion mount?

I mount my Furrion to the rear view mirror using my wife or daughters hair ties. They last longer than rubber bands. One hair tie in the middle of the monitor works for me.

Mounts
Mine came with a heavy duty and fully adjustable arm to windshield mount. Brings it almost to the edge of the deep dashboard.
