Any personal experience with Westlake Super ST tires?

This was a question I raised on the RV.net Travel Trailer forum and there was no personal response - just general anecdotal responses from people who don't have these tires.

I am about to purchase a 2014 Flagstaff Super Lite 27RLWS which comes with these Chinese tires, and I was hoping to get some real-world performance feedback on them.

I am aware that some time back (2007?) there was a recall involving several manufacturers, including Westlake, for sub-standard tires which were (allegedly) lacking certain ingredients which were purported to have led to tire falures. Fast forward to now where they are able to continue supplying tires to Forest River and the US market, so maybe their "quality issues" have subsided ...

I have these on my current Sabre...to date, no issues with over 4K miles on them...treads looking good & no noticeable wear or sidewall deformities thus far.

I'm going to give them one more year of service before replacing, just to be on the safe side (unless something happens between now & then!)

Thanks for the reply. Any reason why you will be looking to replace them in a year? They should still be good then, given present performance. They should not be 5 years old by then ....

These tires will be approx 2.5 years old when I replace...due to the poor performance track record with these Chinese tires & my Dealer's recommendation to change them out by year 3 also due to his experience, I'm swapping out for an overall better tire I can trust.

So......I'd recommend saving for new tires as soon as you purchase your camper (approx $700-800 for a swap).

I would change the tires soon based on my experience. My Rockwood 5th wheel was just over a year old when we had two of the tires that came with unit blow out within one hour of each other. They were kept covered and I am religious about maintaining the right pressures. I had weighed my unit and we were well under the max load. I took a gamble to try to make them last two or three years and lost. I now have five new tires! I'd keep them for a year them change them.
