Attached Propane Grill

What are your opinions or suggestions regarding attaching grill to side of unit ( 8329 Flagstaff ).

We will be leaving in our 5th wheel from May until September in Central New York and will be using it a lot.

I gave my factory installed grill a test run last weekend the only issue I had was the awning catching smoke from the grill. I need to qualify I was inside my shop with no wind to move the smoke. The mounting bracket holds the grill far enough away from the TT that there is not a heat issue and the mounting hardware with the factory unit seems to be very sturdy. I would think it could be easily retrofitted to your application.

We have never used it (still in box). I just don't like the idea of grilling against the side of the TT. The heat / smoke created (burgers) then becoming stuck under the awning and getting into the camper, etc.

I normally grill from on top of the picnic table, our camping table, tailgate, anywhere with more air movement.

That is the grill I tested last weekend that came factory on my Flagstaff. It is made by National Supply and the model #YH1801RV-1 Their number is 374-295-9200 they are out of Elkhart, IN. hope this helps you

I read a post where they mounted the rail on their RV and the screws pulled out dropping the grill on the ground. I have one like in emmdee's photo that was factory installed. I've had no issues with it but with the awning out we shut the doors and windows. Somewhere I saw a bumper mount grill holder that would not be under the awning and away from the door.

We've been using our side-mounted Sidekick grill for nearly 10 years now, with NO issues.

When I had my PDI, the dealer tech said it was OK to use the grill under the awning while the awning was out. But when I read the owner's manual it cautioned against this practice. I would think this could be dangerous due to flames possibly hitting the awning. I prefer not to do this so I guess I will purchase an extension LP hose.
Any thoughts on this..........

My issue was the smoke but I was inside my shop. For flames to reach the awning it would really have to be a big flame and if so just shut the lid. When I cook steak I have the lid shut anyway. I really don't think flames to the awning are an issue. IMHO

You don't have to mount the frame that came with the grill to the camper. You can turn the frame 90 degrees and place the grill on a table or on the ground. I put mine on the ground and anchor it down with a couple of tent stakes. The attached picture is not a picture of my grill. I use a 15 foot extension hose to move the grill away from the camper.

We have the slide mounted grill & small work table attached to the side of our IKWS8528 (included from the factory) and have used it many times with and without the awning extended. No problem----works perfectly.

We have never used the Sidekick grill they came with both our trailers. There shouldn't be any problem with flames or heat but I'd rather not have the smoke and potentially grease getting on the underside of the awning.

We bought a Weber Q200 (now called the 2200) that has a larger cooking surface and I set it up on this aluminum collapsible table away from the trailer.

When we bought our Jayco moho one of those was included with a quick disconnect hose. We used it for 2 years and no problems, even in the rain, I grilled with the awning out. What I did not know, was that it could sit on the ground or a table with the included bracket. The manual did say not to use under awning!!!!!!!!! I am the designated cook on every outing, gives DW a break, and I am too clumsy to cook in the kitchen. So if you have that setup or get one, just use it and enjoy, even if it is raining.

We ditched the propane grill will use the propane connection for a propane fire pit. Going with a Green Mountain Grill Davey Crockett pellet grill/smoker (runs on 12v or 110v) Our Daniel Boone at home is awesome.

Have used an RVQ on the side of our 2 Flagstaff trailers always with the awning out and have had no problems with the heat or smoke damaging anything. Those that don't recommend using them under an awning are just blowing smoke. Pun intended!

While at Atlanta Motor Speedway this past weekend, I came across a gentleman who had his grill attached to a swinging arm that was bolted to his rear bumper. His camper was a FR and he said it came with the camper. When the grill is positioned to the front of the camper, it's right there by the outside kitchen.
