Awning Lock
What about this Old Coot, will this work to keep the awning from unraveling while traveling? I figured you'll have something similar.

Looks like a gatepost latch that is mounted on the awning arm and the latch slides into the hole in the roller tube. The latch is tie wrapped to keep from vibrating unlocked. Probably have to stand on a step ladder to unlock it unless you're 7' tall.

Saw that, the only problem is how do you get up there to engage it and tie the wire on it? I made a tie rod for mine which I engage standing on the ground.

Hey OC, does the bolt in the tie rod just screw into the awning groove? If not, do you have a closer picture?

It's never happened to me (KNOCK, KNOCK) but how common is the awning unraveling during transit?

I just stick my awning rod in hole up there and and then use 2 velcro straps and snug it to the awning support bar, no fuss no muss. It can't rotate. Plus my awning rod is right there where I need it when I unfurl...

No, you have to measure very carefully and drill a 5/16" hole in the end cap so it aligns with the slot where you slide the sunscreens in and then tap the hole & slot to 3/8-16 unc.

Soon after I put "Turb's Lazy Man Awning Mod" in, I was sitting in the truck getting ready to pull out and I looked in the passenger side mirror and saw the awning extending. Turns out I was sitting on the remote I left in my pocket.
Had I not spotted it I would have certainly lost the awning on the drive out of the campground.
Could have used OC's mod that day!

The Jayco class C I had in the 90's, had knob locks to keep the awnings from opening unexpectedly. When we picked our trailer up last week, the guy that did the walk through, said I don't need them on our power awnings. Is he a great big fibber?

After a trip this last week to Arkansas when I got home I noticed my awning out at the top about 3/8"maybe I did not get the awning closed all the way abut I beleive it came out while traveling.
Just wondering about the measuring carefully I know it needs to be centered in the hole but with the way the end cap on the awning is made how do you measure carefully to get the end cap cut to center the hole?

I used a combination square, found the center of the slot, turned the combo sq. around and marked and center punched the sloping surface of the end cap. Started an 1/8" drill bit perpendicular to the surface and drilled the hole. Took the 5/16" bit and drilled parallel to the slot in the tube. Helps if you back the 1/8" bit out and force it parallel to the slot also.

Once you get the hole drilled and tapped, I took my Dremel and ground a flat around the hole so the ss nyloc nut would set flat.
