To this end. I really would have preferred to rewire things so that my brakes bypass the disconnect- but really it's above my pay grade.

Are you positive about that? The brake wires on both of mine went directly to the battery. Didn't go through the disconnect at all...safety feature, I'm sure.

Trace the wires...I'm willing to bet I'm right. From my experience, dealerships are about 30% correct, 30% not sure, and 40% full of it. It's definitely not going to hurt to get in the habit of making sure it's on when in use in either case.
