BBQ mount on TT sidewall

I bought a 2018 E-Pro FBS19 that came with a gas bbq grill that mounts on the sidewall of the trailer that included a gas hose that connects under the sidewall. I realize the awning needs to be retracted to use the grill safely, but I'm still concerned about long or short term damage caused by having that much heat next to the fiberglass sidewall. Am I worrying about something I shouldn't? How many of you have this setup and what's your experience?

Considering how many people have and use these grills and how I've never seen one complaint about heat damage, I'd have to say you don't have much to worry about. Heck, our previous pop-up had one and it was fine, no problems with the canvas or windows.

Never had a problem with using it on the trailer, or under the awning, on my Flagstaff TT. Where I had a problem was that it wasn't a great BBQ and ran with hot/cold spots that I could never really regulate the heat.

First changed over to a CampChef stove, and got the adapter to hook up to the quick connect. Much better heat management, but it was bulky, took up a lot of space in the pass-thru. So now we use a Weber Q100 (Or was it a Q200?, can't remember).

I had the same concerns when we had out previous popup and hybrid. I did a mod using the original mounting bracket and a folding table from WalMart, piece of screen door grill, and extended LP hose from a local LP place connected to the original hose.

We have a Rockwood Mini Light with the grill attached and use it all the time. The only thing we have to watch out for is grease on the side of the TT that drips out of the grill. It wipes off easily.

We have a Flagstaff 228 with a stove mount on the outside. We got a grill with our current trailer and a two-burner stove with the previous trailer. We've only used the grill once and now no longer even carry it along. We use the stove 3-4 times a weekend and love it. We've had no heat issues with the stove, but didn't like the grilling smoke so close to the pop up skin.

Wiscampsin you have an RVQ 1 by the looks of it.
We purchased ours for 5$ Canadian several years ago at a yard sale - used once by the owner.


Her husband told her to sell it for a good price. so she did.


I had it installed on our 2012 Salem with metal siding, and them onto our Sundance bunkhouse with fiberglass siding. I actually installed it on the cargo door. sold it last year with the trailer and have had no complaints about damage to the door or trailer itself. The area behind the BBQ should not get heated up to any degree.

We have a Rockwood 2608 ws with grill attached to side wall have used for over 5 years and haven't had any problems what so ever. Works great. Grill away and enjoy.

You're worrying about something that's unnecessary.

RVers have been using this setup for many years.
We did for 10 years and never needed to to retract the awning.

I guess maybe I'm a bit overly cautious... Wiscampsin - I did do something similar with a small folding table, but I haven't found an extension for the hose.

I love all the great suggestions and especially the ones that have been tried and proven before I go and do it. I use the gas grill that came with mine. Unless you are burning something that is soot intense or huge out of control flames you can grill under the awning. Mine is as white on the underside as it was the day I brought it home. The heat from a properly used grill that came with your rig is certainly within the heat tolerance for that Resin Fiber wall. You shouldn't have huge flare ups with the grills. Cook with the lid closed and you get flavor, good cooking heat and keeps down the flames even with burgers. Or use your side mount frame flipped and attached to the grill as a stand as the second option it was designed for. Longer QD hoses are available just for this option. My wife never has liked the idea of heat or flame next to the rig. She says "even though it is supposed to be safe. it goes against her safety logic" to do it.

I never felt good about the sidewall mount. I never felt. It was robust enough for my taste. I purchased a freestanding, folding wire stand on Amazon for less than $20. I feel much better about this arrangement.

Not sure which grill/bracket you have, but for some, such as the one we have, the bracket that hangs on the wall mount doubles as a tabletop stand for the grill.

The RVQ attaches to the mount which attaches to the side of the RV or TT. Did you know that the mount is made to modify the RVQ to stand on a table? Look in the booklet that came with it. Or online... I have used it both ways: mounted to the trailer or as a stand alone.

My little gas grill for my Forrest River Ultralite TT also is able to be used as a table top grill, with attached legs, and you can move it as far away from the side as your hose will allow. Or use it anywhere with a seperate propane tank. I have had mine for two years now and haven’t even used it yet but I thought the very same thing. I’ve seen people’s houses with vinyl siding that’s melted from a grill too close to it. I’m afraid that the heat will damage my fiberglass wall causing it to become brittle or warp. I also though about putting something up on the wall behind the grill as a shield. I’m sure someone has thought of this before and made something to do that. Others, any ideas?

Ours is still in the bag, we'll never use it. We like to camp in Upstate NY and there's frequently bears wandering through the campsites. I can't imagine having a stinky, beef infused, grill on the side of our trailer. That would certainly draw a hungry bear.

Also, if you use the grill much at all you have a big job of cleaning all the grease and pieces of burnt droppings out good enough to put back inside your RV and not have your RV smelling like meat too. It’s a shame too. I’ve got the stainless one. That’s $300 I will never get my moneys worth out of.
