I'll leave that to the engineers in the group. I'd imagine that the forces are many times the combined weight of the bikes. A lot depends on how far away the ladder and bikes are away from the axles, conditions of the road and trailer's suspension. I have no idea, but an easy thing to do would be to check the trailer manufacturer's limits for that ladder and see if they have any weight limitations. They might be perfectly fine with the setup.

Darn fifth wheel hitch gets in the way for me to do that. But I have put the bikes in front of the hitch.

Rugged Brown, unfortunately, my warranty isn't up until next August, so I won't be attempting my "modification" any time soon. But i will likely be posting pictures then!
