Can 26FKBS/2608BS steps be removed for storage?

Ordered a 2020 Flagstaff 26FKBS (same as Rockwood 2608BS) for April delivery.

Wondering if a folding step can be 'easily' removed for storage? or can these steps be modified to allow access into TT while in a packed storage barn? I would be removing only 1 step in order to use a small box to step up and squeeze into the door (if that's even possible :>).

It's winter in Michigan and I have time to think of these things..

Thanks for any replies,
Tim d

I can’t answer your question regarding removal of steps as I have never looked at mine with that thought in mind. But, do know that when your slides are in you will need access to both doors to enter the entire unit. The front door gives you access from the fireplace forward and the rear door only accesses the bedroom and bathroom. You can’t move from the living room to the bed and bath rooms.

Thanks for the reminder about total TT access requiring both entry doors. TT access was one reason we chose this model... even though it requires both doors. If in the Spring I find out I can easily remove a step, I'll post an update for others.

Consider this string closed.

I have the same question as TRD. Just purchased a Flagstaff 25BDS. Storing it inside a carport along with two other vehicles. There's no room to extend the stairs to enter, so I'd like to remove them during storage. Again, is there anyone who has removed them, and if so, how easy or difficult is it?
Thanks.

When I can get to my dealer, I'll check it out on an in stock Flagstaff 26FKBS, and post pictures if possible. I'm sure there are a variety of step variations out there. In fact, I saw a step that advertised ease of removal.

Individual steps cannot be removed unless the steps, frame and legs are completely disassembled.

Oops, sorry pics of the steps on our 2608bs are sideways!

Thanks for picture.. but looking to remove entire step assembly as one piece. The frame attached to trailer would remain.
My guess is this wont be possible. This is not a deal breaker.
By the way, we love our 25BDS but after 90 travel days last summer we found we wanted a separate bedroom and more countertop...in under 30'. Very sorry to see outside kitchen go bye bye.

Stair Removal

Thanks, but I'm not interested in the disassembly of individual steps. I would like to remove the intact staircase from the trailer.

How-To

Believe there is a how-to on removing the steps for storage from another member, but I am unable to find the posting.
Basically comes down to removing, drilling out, two rivets one on each side(?) and replacing the rivets with quick release pins but my memory is not always the best. He too wanted the steps to be removal for storage as would not able to fold them down due to limited space. Believe he was going to use a step ladder to get in and out.

Some else with better search-foo then I can find it that be great. I to was going to have similar problem but I came up with a different solution.

Update

Found the post I referred to above, "Jim in Florida" pictures and list parts used further down in the post on page 7. Doesn't make any reference to the strut so he just pops it off? Anyway a possible solution.

Here are four pictures of the front steps on my 2608bs. The first two are the left side which has the struts attached. The second two are the right side.

Strut side appears to have two bolt/nuts with the top set having both struts attached to them. It looks like there may be a clip holding the strut to the bolt but I’m not 100% sure on that. Access to the back side (2nd pic) for the 2608 is very restricted due to the location of the pantry.

Right side is even more restricted due to the panel on the side of the fridge. I can feel a bolt/screw head on the back side that must be either a hex or a torex as the head is rounded and smooth. There is no way one could get a wrench on it.

After looking at my pictures it might be that the bolt holding the struts might not need to be removed (?) Also that is my flashlight that is holding the cover open.

It didn’t occur to me to take pics of the rear door until I got back in the house but will do so next time I’m out at the shop.

There has got to be a way to get to the attachments but I couldn’t figure it out. I can’t imagine that the steps were installed prior to the interior.

Thank you for the pictures and taking the time to check your TT.

I realize these steps aren't the perfect solution. Without having experience with them, our preference would have been underbelly pull-out steps on the rear bedroom door. Who know's.. the way options and equipment change during the model year, we may get them.

Excited and looking forward to April delivery. Thanks again.

If you are interested in replacing the MORryde steps you could look at Torklift’s GlowStep Revolution Uprising. I assume you don’t have any framing under the doors that traditional fold out steps are mounted to.

It was my understanding that the MorRyde steps were being updated in (most) of the 2020 models to combat their main weakness - inability to be deployed in tight spaces. The new ones were supposed to be (easily) removable -- but I think you better have some upper body strength to do it - they are not light. I've seen some info stating that they are detachable now.

Took a couple of years, but MorRyde apparently got the message that not being able to get into your trailer unless you moved it could be a bit of a problem.

There's another MorRyde version that's spring-loaded -- those allow the stairs to remain suspended in mid-air, rather than come crashing down. I don't know if this version allows detachment, but I haven't seen both features in a single set of steps, yet.

If the trailer you're looking at doesn't have the removable version, it's going to be a matter of seeing if MorRyde has some sort of conversion kit to retrofit the earlier versions, or replace them with the Torklift Revolution Uprising, as the previous poster mentioned.

Because the traditional cutaway for the 'old school' steps doesn't exist on the trailers with the MorRyde versions, the Torklift steps above are the only ones I know of that can replace the MorRyde versions -- you can't put a set of conventional steps on these trailers. Torklift also mentions this on their own website, for reference.

(On edit... ) MorRyde now shows the revised steps on their website -- they're called 'Quick Connect', and attach via brackets on the *outside* of the trailer. Same steps as the 'Step Above'... they're just removable, vs the 1st version.

What a great overview and reply... Thanks. This all started because I had a 'trivia' question. Seems like it isn't trivial afterall.
Trailer order has been placed with dealer but not placed yet with factory. It will be interesting to see what changes, if any, are actually delivered... Version of steps? upgraded toilet? Type of tires? Interior blinds that have true blackout in bedroom??

We'll know in April when we have the big reveal.

I'll X2 the Torklift steps. My understanding is that they can be deployed with as little as 1 foot of clearance and end up being like a step ladder. So if you can open the door, you will be good to go. Additionally, they are much less likely to dump dirt into the trailer when you stow them.

I have a set of the old style Torklilfts on my trailer and really like them.
