Counter extension mod ideas

The new Flagstaff/Rockwods have the counter extension that is now attached and just folds down out of the way. I have a 2017 but my extension still has to be removed and stowed. If you have the newer model could you please post a picture on how this is being done? I would like to do this to my TT. Thank you!!

Under the bed?....Wife doesn't use it as it somewhat blocks drawers

That is where we usually keep it. But that is a pain. We like to have it to dry dishes on as well as keeping snacks during the day. Would serve us better if it was folded down and easily stood back up from the folded position.

I don't know the counter layout of your Flagstaff....
But, if you have any counter overhang area that has nothing like drawers or cupboard doors under it ... I will brave the winter weather tomorrow if someone would like to know where & how I stow our removable counter section.
We use it a lot , yes it is in the way of the drawers while in use, but we still can access them...so I made some hanging brackets and keepers to store it under the counter overhang where the 2 bar stools are meant to be used.
It's secure under way and better than under a bed or in a closet.

This is what my layout looks like. The counter addition goes on the end near the sink.

So what is on the other side of the cabinet inline with the kitchen faucets?
Also how much of an overhang does the counter top provide on that side ?

In order for my method to work and to look ok you would need the same amount of overhang as the "thickness" of the counter extension 'plus' the amount the "extension supports" take up..... in other words the Over-all supports and extension thickness ...equals overhang.

I will try and post my set up tomorrow.

We put some wooden screw on legs on ours that way I can move where I need and sometimes use outside when using crockpot etc. It stows behind bathroom door when not in use.

They make double ended screws for legs to remove legs if more area for storage is needed

But I will post my setup just in case it might help someone down the road.

I know how everybody likes pictures.. so here ya go

I stayed with the same mounting supports that came with the counter extension and the same adjustable leg as well.
- Picture 1 shows counter overhang with extension in stored position.
- Picture 2 shows front view of counter extension in stored position.
- Picture 3 shows what I used to hang the counter extension (using the mounting hardware it came with) It was a piece of 1/2"X1/2" aluminum cut the width of the table and slots cut to fit the mounting hardware, screwed to the underside of the counter overhang.
- Pictures 4,5, 6 & 7 shows what keeps the counter extension in place during travel.
To help explain: The top 2 pieces of wood mounted with spring hinges (cupboard door hinges) fit tight against extension..at the bottom is a rocker door catch to hold the extension from swinging out.
A small piece of pool noodle is taped to the folding leg to provide protection and a little soft resistance for the catch at the bottom.

I'm not saying this is for everyone or it is the best set up but it is a handy secure location and it works for us.

I'd be happy to answer any questions if I didn't make it clear enough.

I just mounted it with 2 hinges where they use to hang. I no longer need to stow it. It folds up and down when I need, or not.

The extension came with the trailer. I just mounted it with hinges because storing the extension was a pain in the but.

I have a pic of my old trailer where I put an extension on the end of the counter area. It was there for the entire 23 seasons we had the trailer. The shot was taken just before we sold it for out new one. You would have to figure how to attach it to your Corian counter, but, the idea was to have two angled pieces attached to the bottom of the extension which came up and fitted into slots in the side of the counter. Since I had to brace the angled pieces, I used a dowel and added a second shelf under the first one. The whole thing folded down (in the picture you see a towel which is the pad for the TV we stowed under the extension during towing - you can see the mount on the wall). In your case you would just have the two extensions because you are needing to open the drawers. Check the underside of the counter and see if there is enough room to glue a piece of board to attach the piano hinge for the extension. I built mine out of scraps and plywood, but, it may give you an idea for yours. I am going to try to attach the picture so you can get an idea how it was in there. The extension folds up and the legs go into a slot with the second shelf resting on the down crosspiece. It set up in seconds and we used it for toaster, pots, dishes, etc. storing papers and such underneath it. When we folded it down the hook kept it in place and also provided enough clamping power to hold the TV in stored position. Hope this helps.
