Exhaust Vent
For any new owners out there that was not told ( like me )that there are tabs outside on the vent that have to be released for the vent to open. I don't know if it's like this on all campers but would have liked to have told. Found it just by accident.

Yes, these tabs are on most campers. Just don't forget to close them back before towing, or you will buying a new vent flap. Add it to your pre-tow checklist, if you have one.

I hope you're talking about the tabs that rotate to the side and don't have the type of tabs they put on our Silverback. Holy Cow, hard to open, almost impossible to close. Here's a pic of what I have.

Have to agree Oakman, and they are particularly difficult for us vertically challenged people. Why they can't make a latch that is controled from inside is beyond me. I made one for our 08Flagstaff831RLSS with a pc of brazing rod and will no doubt do the same on our new 5ver.

My tabs are different, there is 2 and they just swivel to the sides.

Glad I saw this about the tabs as I wasn't told about them and would have just run the fan with it closed. But how do they open? I tried pushing up and pulling down but they don't seem to want to move. Do they flip open from the bottom or top or slide to the top? Oak man, mine look like yours so what do you do?

Hey me too!! sitting in acampground in Hot Springs, AR and saw thsi thread.
Mine are like the picture and i can't figure to push ,pull, lift, lift, twist or just cuss.
my dear wife just figured it out - put fingers on tabs ans pull back towards you.
Simple for some!! just not me

I have to use my thumbs to move them outward. Mine are so difficult that just when I think they are going to break, they finally pop open. Getting them closed is almost as difficult. I don't think I'll bother using them.

Ditto! Also, when they are open and there is a stiff breeze, the flapper on the vent rattles and slaps enough to drive us nuts. We only open when cooking, but has anyone else experienced this and found a quick-fix?

They can be difficult to open. As Oakman says, just when you think something is going to break ...
As also mentioned, you do want to close the flap when towing or you will be replacing it.

Thought it was going to break but got it open. Flap sure doesn't move very much though. Glad someone posted this or mine would have never been open.

Took the fan out of the hood, figured out how to control the flap, went out to remove the cover on the flap and lo and behold there are no screws holding it on. It is glued to the side of the trailer with no way to remove it. Decided we will just leave it unlatched and put a clothespin on the cover to keep it from rattling in the wind or use the clothespin to hold it open. Foiled by the fickle finger of fate once again.

I may be taking a risk here, but I leave mine open while traveling. Have not had any problems. Will close them on a cold night to prevent cold air from coming in.

I agree with Oakman this newer style is really hard to open, I have this style on my 2012 264 surveyor.
