Flagstaff 8528BHWS for FT?

My DW and I are in the process of transitioning from a Truck Camper to a larger unit.

Our goal is to use the unit as our home as we staff nurse in East Tennessee beginning next year. We are empty nesters but do expect the kids to visit.

We are looking at several units including the 8528BHWS. We like its layout and the fact that it has the extra half bath. Does anyone use this unit for long term traveling or full time?

I would appreciate any experiences you could share.

Thanks

Not the bunkhouse layout, but another 8528. Wife and I stayed in ours for 5 months last year while building a house. Space wise we were vey comfortable and
Had no mechanical issues or cosmetic problems.
Biggest problem was the ant hill close by.
It has been a good purchase for us.

We bought the 8528 shown below on Jan. 4th this year (32 ft) after trading in an 8 month old V-Lite (30WIKSS) which was 35 ft. We decided we'd go ahead and upgrade to the 5er from the bumper pull before retirement. L

We did the shake down this past weekend and we both said "we could easily full time in this". The very deep opposing slides in the living room make it very roomy and homey. We're totally infatuated with this unit! And that's saying a lot since we LOVED that V-Lite.

We are also empty nesters but our kids have their own RVs now. So, no need for the 1/2 bath and bunks.

Can't wait to geaux again! And we have no concerns about living in it months at a time in a few years.

I have the Rockwood version, 8281SS, same lay out, but before the wardrobe. WE do not full time but, we use it a lot. We like it. We have not had any issues (knock on wood). With two young boys, having thier own room, TV and bathroom has been great. The only thing that is a pain is the three sewer outlets. I joined the front two, into one, to make it a little easier, other than that we like the camper.. Good luck with your decision..

The Ultralights don't have very much cargo capacity, in this case the spec says 1501 lbs, in reality is will be less than that. If you're full-timing you'd be limited what you could load in it...other campers have 2 - 3x that capacity, but not the lightweight construction.

I have been full timing it for 4+ years now. 2010 Flagstaff 8528BHHS. Converted the bunkhouse into a sitting room. Dual recliners. Love it. We have a enclosed trailer at our sons and visit to change out seasonally summer and winter items just prior to going south. Looking to install hardwood floors this spring, and yes were loving it.

Thanks for all the replies. We will spend the next few weeks checking the different manufacturers websites looking at the different brands and models to try to come up with several possibles and then try to see that unit in person. We still really like the 8528

Thanks again

We looked at just about all manufactures and settled on Forest River as the one we wanted to trust. There were others that came close to what we wanted but found ourselves going back to the FR. Using aluminum instead of wood was a considerable factor. Lift up the master bed and check it out.

Thanks again for all the replies.

For those of you who use your unit for longer times, do you have the dual pane windows, if so how do you like them?

Also how does the 12 volt heating pads work on the holding tanks?

We will hopefully be full timing next year in East Tennessee and want to make sure the unit can handle their winters. We will be staying in a commercial campground with full hook ups.

Thanks

I've used my tank heaters every year. We will stay in our 5r until the day temp falls below freezing (or close) and then either travel south from Chicago to AZ., or winterize it and go into the house. Although we would like FR to install stock LED rocker switch as it would give the wife a sense of comfort, they continue to perform their function.
