Flagstaff 8528RSWS Windows

My wife and I were looking at a Flagstaff 8528RSWS Fifth Wheel today that had the Platinum package on it, and therefore the bonded/frameless windows.

We absolutely loved the layout, until we noticed that most of the windows in the living area don't open at all; and the ones that do open only tilt out a few inches. These windows are noted in red on the attached floor plan.

Oddly, if you opt not to get the Platinum/Diamond package, they are instead able to open (our salesman checked with the Forest River rep).

I have two questions: 1) does anyone have this floor plan with thermopane windows? If you do, do the windows marked in read open? 2) If you have this floor plan with the platinum/diamond package and not thermopane windows, does the lack of airflow bother you?

Thanks in advance.. it seems really odd to me that FR would neglect this, and the salesmen at the dealership made it seem that we weren't the first to find this objectionable..

Matt

We toured the factory a couple of weeks ago and were told that any windows in the ends of a slide will not open as it would be an issue with windows open hitting side of trailer when closing slides and therefore they don't install operating windows in any ends of slides. I also believe have seen that in almost all other trailers.

Hmm, we have windows on either end of 2 of our slides and they both just slide up internally. They don't tip/tilt out, just up and down.

We don't have double-pane windows or anything. Maybe different rules for different brands...

I have a flagstaff 831FKBSS and the windows on our slides ALL open (up and down, not out). I find in a little strange that Platnum edition windows barely open, if at all. Part of the camping experience is having the windows open to smell the fresh air!

I have the 831fkbss with the diamond pk. The windows push out and I enjoy the air all the time. The roof fan in the bath room acts like a whole house fan when on. This has been a great camper. Even on rainy days I have the windows open and do not worry about rain.

We have a 2011 Flagstaff 8528RKWS. 4 windows on the slide all operateup and down as double hung windows. The large window only tilts out on the bottom. Forest River Forums - wfmdfm's Album: Our 2011 Flagstaff 8528RKWS

I believe that the problem is with the frameless windows that are part of the Platinum package in that they only open out not vertically.

I traded in my 2009 Flagstaff 831fkbss (really disapointed in it due to multiple delamination issues from the first 6 months we had it) for a new Columbus 320 RS with the bonded windows and ALL windows open, the slide windows open up and down while all others open out from the bottom. A lot of thought went into the Columbus line and I looked around at several 5th wheels for several months before buying the Columbus. Looking forward to our first trip with the new unit!

Cornfed78, we have the 8528rsws that you inquired about. We have the platinum package and the windows that you marked in red do not open. In addition, the few windows that do open only crank out about 3 inches max. We were taken with the floor plan and, incorrectly, assumed the windows would be like those in our previous rv. Our mistake. But so far it's not so bad. We have the ceiling fan in the living area and Maxairr fan in bath that provides enough fresh air.
