Generator

I am picking up our 2014 Flagstaff Micro Lite 19FD on Saturday and hope to be camping soon. We own property in Northern Michigan that has no power (yet). I was thinking of buying a generator to use for awhile but I don't know how which manufacturer is best or how many Watts i would need. We're new to RVs and my knowledge on this is ZERO! Thanks.

There are numerous postings on generators and almost too much to comprehend. It depends on what all you need to run as to how much generator you need. It appears your unit has one 13.5k AC which is too much for a 2,000 watt generator. If you need to run the AC the the smallest unit would be 3,000 watt which would leave a little room for TV, microwave, etc. You would still have to manage usage so not to run the elec water heater or possibly the microwave at the same time as the AC. Both the Honda and Yamaha are good reliable units and either would serve you well.

Few things. How much do you want to spend and how quiet do you want it?

Inverter generators are quiet, fuel efficient, and expensive.

Conventional generators are loud, not as fuel efficient (running 3600RPMs), and are considerably cheaper.

I like the Champion 3500 watt, available at Tractor Supply, as a good middle of the road generator. It isn't overly loud, yet not quiet. It has enough amperage to run your trailer, has a TT30 connector so you don't need any adapters, and has a 120/240 for emergency use at your house.

Got to share this It does not take much to amaze me but our local Lowes Home Improvement stores are carrying a Hybrd Riding Lawn mower.......... 46in deck called a Raven here's what is interesting it looks a little like an ATV, the blades run on an electric motors ............. here's the ................. it is also a 7100 watt generator so when working away from power you take it with you or run an RV ............ sounds great for a seasonal site with no power ,....... but they could not tell me how quiet it was they did say when traveling it was no nosier than an electric golf car.......... only 110V power though all for $2999 it sounds too good to be true & the batteries seem small I am going to look into this some more

I looked at the Champion and it looked pretty good. I may stop by TS tomorrow and check it out. Thanks

If you're camping on your own property and it's large enough, noise may not be as much an issue. If that's the case you could save some money and go with something like the Champion...you could even built a enclosure to knock the sound down some and add a larger fuel tank should you need to run it for many hours straight.

The only reason to look at a Honda/Yamaha inverter low noise generator would be if you intend to camp at state or national parks in the near future.

I don't usally camp where I have neighbors but for my own sanity I would not have a noisy generator. I couldn't be more pleased with my Honda eu3000is. Plenty of power for everything I need to run and very, very quiet.

Camping will be on our own property in the woods. Noise will not be an issue. In the TT we are buying there is no outside storage and I am pulling with a Ford Escape. Not much room for a large generator. I am picking the trailer up tomorrow and will start measuring to figure out what size generator we can fit in the unit and what my wife and I can carry ourselves.

I looked at the Honda generators and they are nice. I am not too worried about noise for now. My only use the generator for this year and then get electricity on the property. Just don't have an extra $3K for the install.

Price of the honda would be half the install cost....

What do you mean? I did not do anything other than respond to the cool link another user posted. Did I miss something?

Commenting about a link to a video is not high jacking. The lawn mower talk and subsequent link to the video is the high jack. IMHO

The Raven was also a generator so in theory the thread was not high jacked. They were just given another option.

Some people can be so uptight in these forums, it's ridiculous. I personally liked that someone told the forum about a utility vehicle that is also generator. For the RVers this could be ideal. Replace the golf cart with one of these and you have killed 2 birds with one stone.

X2 kind of what I was thinking ............................................ a 7100 W generator , that can become an ATV hybrid gas or electric that happens to be a lawn mower ideal for an RVer I don't understand how that's a hijack............ THe OP asked about generators this is an option.....
