Generators

We are looking to purchase a generator for our camper. For those of you that have a 15,000 btu air conditioner, what size generator do you use?

for that size a/c, you'll need a minimum of 3000watts.

do you want quiet or cheap? can't have both.

My Yamaha 2800I starts and runs my 15K BTU AC unit just fine. Even at higher elevations.
But just to be sure you will need two Honda/Yamaha 2K's and a parallel cable or a big old heavy 3K generator. Most people opt for the twins. Much easier to handle 55 pounds vs 135 pounds.

An RV dealer has a used '07 Boily generator. 3600 watts. Are those any good? It's the owner's generator and he's asking $850.

After doing a little searching, I see the name is actually Boliy.

Nano, not sure where you live. I have a Honda at home. I thinking about selling it. I think it is around 4500 watts. I just bought a motorhome and will no longer need it. I live in Southwest Louisiana.

We just bought a Yamaha 3000 watt quiet run generator. Runs everything in camper, Rockwood 2502s. It is heavy but my husband and i can handle it. Like the auto start, and it runs for 20+ hrs on a tank. It took us a while to choose 1 but after some studying, pricing and advise of other campers, it was best for us.

there are mixed reviews of the Boliy. on paper, they seem great but very limited service centers and lots of revisions, have damaged its rep.

go to RV.net's tech issues section and search for Boliy.
you'll get hundreds of posts on it.

You can purchase a new boliy for under $1200 with free shipping. IMO $850 for a used one is over priced. It is 4 years old.

Nano, I was at Genreal RV in Birch Run about 2 months ago...they had a Dometic...very light says it will run A/C but I did not hear one run...maybe you can check it out...please post your findings...I'm interested in one myself, provided I don't get a Honda.

I have a 3500 watt Champion and it runs the AC fine. It is one of the El Cheapo Chinese brands and only cost $250.00. It is not very loud but if you are going to be using it in a campground I would go for something quieter.
