Before possibly marring the fixture or the ceiling, I would appreciate the experience of those who have successfully removed the lens from this type of fixture. I've tried gently pushing a small, flathead screwdriver in the slots seen but so far have not been successful. Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.
Slide something thin (I use a utility knife as the blade is thin) near the center of the long side between the outer bezel and the center lens and then pulling downward on the center lens.
The center lens has two tabs that will release by doing what I suggested and can be removed.
The outer slots you see (and mentioned) do hold something.
They hold the outer bezel to the metal mounting base plate that you will see when you remove the lens. The base plate is screwed to the ceiling and after removing the screws (and the the entire fixture) you will see what those tabs do and how you really can't release them until the fixture is removed as they pull outward to release the bezel.
Hope this helps!

This fixture actually consists of two removable pieces. The clear "lens" is most easily removed from the plastic surround by compressing the lens side-to-side and pulling down on one end of the lens. There are four plastic tabs (two on each side about 25% of the length in from the ends). When squeezed together they release from the surround. Somewhat difficult to grab onto the sides, but can be done. If you want to remove the fixture, the surround should be removed from the mounting backing plate. This is best done (in my experience) by clamping the ends of the surround in the jaws of a grip clamp, deflecting the sides by squeezing on the ends and then pulling down on an edge. Hope this helps.
Many thanks to all who replied. I followed picker's suggestions last night and successfully (and quite easily) removed the lens for cleaning and delightfully found that led's were installed.
fonzie, thanks for the thread. My searching capabilities were certainly lacking.

Most appreciated from all!
Glad to help and thanks for reporting back.
Confirmations help others (down the road) looking for solutions.
