Modification Ideas

Anyone out there with a Flagstaff 27BHSS or Rockwood 2701SS that has made modifications to it for extra storage. I have the 2006 model that has the little shelf up top for no bigger than a 13 inch TV and I am looking at possibly mounting a 15-20 inch flat panel in that area. I am presently using the small bar to sit a bigger TV and with the cable inputs and all being up top makes me have cables, etc draped everywhere. I am also looking to possibly mount a small 7 inch to 9 inch "undercabinet" style LCD TV in the rear bunk area for the daughter to watch. Any other ideas???????

I'm also looking for ideas on how to mount a flat panel to the wall above the bar in our Surveyor SV291. I'd like for it to be on a "swing arm" so we can watch from the bed area, but if the walls can't hold it then a fixed mount will have to do. any ideas will be welcome.

I have a 2701SS. Lots of mod pics here:

http://tomhole.com/2701SS.htm

I had a 19" LCD TV and separate DVD, but couldn't find a good way to install them that suited my wife (zero clutter gal). I just bought a 20" LCD/DVD combo to put in the space by the fridge. I am going to mount it on an articulated mount so I can swing it out to view from front or back. That's my project this weekend if I want to brave the cold. Thanks to a poster, I am going to screw/bolt the mount into the frame around the fridge. Should provide ample support while stationary. While moving, the mount allows easy removal of the TV. It will go someplace safe. And it is my bedroom TV at home while not camping.

I don't like the over the bar spot. Too limited viewing space (everyone is off angle). With it by the fridge, lots of folks will have a direct view. With it on the arm, it can swing out and the kids can watch a moview from the bunks.

Thanks "tomhole"...I had actually read your mods post and viewed the pictures before you replied and those pics gave me some great ideas for our 27BHSS. I especially loved the compartments you did under the rear bunk. Also what length wire shelves did you use in the wardrobe closets or did you have to buy and cut them? Luckily the 2006 models had two options for where the TV would go, either the little cubbie up top right above the little bar or just the bar itself.....

I bought the 12" wide shelves and then cut them to length with a dremel.

I didn't know the 2006's were different than the 2007's.

Not a whole lot of difference. The floor plans were the same. The only thing I saw different from 06 to 07 was the TV location really. In O6 it was either up in the cubbie up by the door or on the counter by the door. In 07 they started with the cubbie by the fridge from what I remember. If you have not already, go to www.forestriverinc.com and check out the new 2008 brochure. Now the 08 27BHSS and 2701SS have a complete entertainment center in the middle in front of the bed with built in TV.....Forest River has now even got into having TT's with bedroom slides like some of the heavy weights do.....We have enjoyed out 27BHSS, but we might be trading up in the next year, so don't know what if any mods will make....If I keep it for another 2 or 3 years then I will probably make them.

I found out about the new entertainment center on the 2701SS while I was shopping. We decided we definitely did not want that. We liked the open layout of not having that wall there. We looked at an 8317SS which has the wall to decide. So, we think that is a poor addition by FR.
