New Flagstaff Step Design

I have a 2019 microlite 25 FBLS and I really like the unit as a whole.. BUT... I hate the steps that fold up in the doorway. It’s a ridiculous design in my mind. If you’re not parked in a perfectly level site, you now have an added chore of being sure the bottom of the steps are supported or the door frame is under tremendous stress while in use. This can be an aggravating chore to an old fart like me. if you have a personal site with a deck, as I do, you are screwed. So, I contacted my dealer about converting the steps to the old fold out frame attached design that served me quite we’ll for over 35 years and it can be done for around $400. I’m wondering if any of you have had this done and how it worked out? Thank you for your responses.

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questioned answered. Most folks go the other way of removing the fold up and replacing with the type you have. Check the search box for step replacement there are articles on doing this. You may be able to trade your stips for a folding set someone wants to change out and save some dollars. good luck

I agree with you. I had the old tuck away steps that went under the door and found them very convenient. My 2020 TT has the new steps like yours and I find them very inconvenient. I will say they are much more stable but if you just need to get in the rig quickly and you have pulled over on the side of a road or area they don't work well for that. My wife likes them so I will live with them but I don't think they are the best design. My wife does not like the dirt that gathers on them and then falls into the rig even if you have swept them or the dirt that gathers under the door plate. I was just next to another person that had these steps and he said his storage facility is very tight and he can't get in his rig without pulling it forward due to the distance that the steps travel while arcking downwards.

Don't pay to have it done. If you have the cutout space under the floor where fold outs went before this new step feature you can do it yourself. Buy the three step folders with their box if needed and two people can install it. You might even find someone that wants to upgrade their rig with your new doorway steps... the width is important to know. The doorway steps are around $400 new and install adds on more.
There are youtube videos on removing and installing both.

Unfortunately, I doubt that the RV designers consider those in permanent sites, when adding features like these steps. Unless you have a park model or destination trailer.

Many RV owners are fans of these steps and others want them, to replace the old style steps.

Many have replaced their old style steps. Perhaps you an pick up a used set, if you are up to the install.

I'm sure there are many who would be willing to swap their old style steps, for the OP's new style steps. Maybe a member who could make an offer.

This is my 4th camper and the first one with the fold up steps and we like them there are adjustable .We been out camping 5 times and no problem

Welcome to the forum, Grumpygramps53.

If Flagstaff put the MORryde steps in at the factory, chances are you don’t have any framing under the door to mount the traditional folding steps so you’ll need to cut out the lower wrap-under trim piece and get creative in mounting the step frame.

Thank you for this suggestion. I’ll definitely look into difficulty of doing this.

Mine aren’t adjustable. It would be better if they were, but I still hate’em.

My TT is In covered storage so I’ll have to go by in a day or so to check on this. Thank you for the suggestion. That might be why My dealer quoted $300 to $400 to do the conversion.

Legs should be adjustable ... simple pull pin and slide in or out to make longer or shorter ... I think they have to be adjustable or they would not work?? Should be covered by PDI so many have issues and there should not be ... once we level and secure the first thing is adjust steps we do it every stop takes less than 60 sec's ... I think they are terrific steps ... best of luck

Mine aren’t. That’s one main reason my opinion of them is so low. That and the fact that they are not removable, but riveted to the door frame. I’m happy for these that like’em though. 👍

Not adjustable ?? I've only seen a couple models of those...we have them on our 2018 Cherokee and the ones I have seen have adjustable feet. Haven't measured mine but guessing they have 4-5" or more of travel on each foot. Never had trouble adjusting feet to uneven ground. If you can't replace them, can you find a way to build the deck over the top of them ??

Can you post a photo? They've got to be adjustable or you would damage the door sill.

These are the same steps, right? If so, the legs extending from the bottom are adjustable.
