on board surge protector
Before we tried out our newly installed shore power, we wanted to make sure the PDI tech was correct in telling us our model has an on board surge protector.
I dragged out every book and pamphlet that came with our TT and scoured through them all.
Couldn't find a thing about a built in surge protector.
Anyone know if he was correct?

It is VERY unlikely! But someone may have more info if you could post the TT model you have. :-)

Very unlikely in a brand new Forest River trailer. I know for a fact CC does not. You can trace the wiring from your panel and take a look. It would be in a conspicuous place and should be easy to spot.

(I don't see the 30-amp portables there anymore, but they are available.)

It's in my signature....
I wonder if it's part of the upgrades in the Platinum Package model we bought.
In any case, I'll be contacting our dealer or FR regarding this...and yes, consider buying our own.

Nawww FD! I should have taken that into consideration.
And I should have known better, since I posted from our ipads while on our last trip, didn't even notice there were no signatures showing.

We have the V-Lite 2013 30WIKSS with many upgrades, but not a particular package as far as I know. Anyway, after our trip to Goshen and following some of the Forum threads we had a Progressive Industries 50 amp Electrical Management System with remote display hardwired into our trailer. Tweety's had the best price, but by spending another $75 plus the install our dealer will support the lifetime warranty from Progressive as well as any labor that may be required. Electricity is not an area of expertise for either of us and we have a great relationship with our dealer so we went with that. The remote display is mounted on the front of the pseudo end table on the drivers side of the couch which I believe is on the other side of the wall from the shore line connection.

The service tech probably is referring to the circuit breaker box. LOL

My setup.
The box is right behind the distribution panel.

I just got my progressive industries 50a hard wired unit. Do I wire it in right before the fuse panel? I was gonna un wire from the fuse panel and hook that wire in to the imput see than add some wire from the output side and back in to the fuse panel. Is this a good way to optimize this unit? This way I don't actually have to cut any wire in my unit in case I trade it later I can easily remove the PI surge protector.

Yes, that's a good plan. You need 6-3 w/gnd.
Be forewarned that working with #6 wire is difficult. Also, you need to diverge from the instructions and cut the wires to slightly different lengths because the cable comes into one side of the box and some wires go to close connectors and other connectors are further away.
