Propane alarm went off 4 in the morning!

Talk about a rude awakening!, never smelled any gas, unhooked the tanks anyway. Finally had to pull fuse to silent alarm. Camper is 4yr old, cant figure out why it went off. maybe bad sensor? but the oddest thing was my 12yr old son raises his head and says " Dad whats that noise?" I said get your tail out of the bed!

Unhooked the propane tanks? If there was a gas leak, it would have been inside of the unit.
1) Grab fire extinguisher. Get out of unit asap....Get everyone safely away.
2) shut off propane at tanks
3) unplug unit so no sparks
4) If unit is not on fire 'yet'... open doors and open windows.
5) No gas smell???? no rotten egg smell??? let unit air out 15 minutes more.
6) Turn power back on and leave gas tanks closed
7) If alarm goes off with no gas on, you may have a low battery or convertor is acting up, or alarm shorting out and needs replaced
8) If this is in the middle of the night, I would leave the gas tanks off and all of the windows opened to have good air flow until in the morning. We do not want to go to sleep and never wake up.
9) fix what is wrong and sleep better the next night.

We had that problem going out to the F.R.O.G. Rally. Had the 8 year battery check at 2 different business and it check out ok. Reading of 200 which it should read new 250. I was told by both business that that it was in range of OK. Forest River Techs @ the rally said that we needed a bigger Battery and the converter { had spots in elec board that had over heated } need to be replaced. FR replaced the converter and the battery along with some other repairs free of Charge.

Propane detectors have a five year life. Check the date of manufacture on your unit. According to the manual, the Safe-T-Alert brand alarm in our Sunseeker will beep every 30 seconds and flash red red green green when the sensor is at the end of its life. The original one in our RV did this when it was only two years old. And of course, it was at 3 AM.

Rohlingerrv, did you ever figure out exactly what happened?

Oddly enough I came home last night to hear my LP alarm going off. My LP has been turned off for a couple months now, no gas smell... however the batteries are kind of weak and the alarm is probably getting a bit old. I'll pull it and check tonight.

Warthog, the most common cause of this happening, is a low/dead trailer battery, not an actual propane leak.

many of us install a battery disconnect switch so we don't have to keep it plugged in.
when i stored my HTT(no hookups) last winter, i turned off the fully charged batteries in Nov.
i tested them 4 months later and they were still nearly fully charged.

We have a 2011 8528 RKWS and the CO alarm rings constantly! Funny enough, it seems as if it is during the middle of the night most times.

There are a few brands that are inherantly faulty and no matter what you do, it is still a problem. We changed our 2 year old alarm, at FR's request and also their nickle, and we still have the same problem.

Our unit is hard wired so it is not able to be unplugged. However, you can just set it to mute, which last a couple of weeks.

Check everything you can to make sure it is not a safety issue...

Lot's of luck...

Exclamation 2018 coachmen Leprechaun 26DS CO/lp detector

A strange experience with a combined CO/LP detector. Yesterday a screeching alarm sounded, even though the RV was closed up. Tried to shut off the alarm, which was hard wired in; disconnected it with no effect. unhooked the batteries, no effect, unhooked the engine battery, no effect. Pulled out fuses and check the breakers. Unpluged RV from the house electric, still no effect. There was still a very loud alarm siren that appeared to be somewhere in the ceiling. Took battery out of the smoke alarm, no effect. I checked the specs on the Safe-t-alert model and it didn't show. Now looking for owners manual. Finally by this am, the alarm stopped - any idea how these things are installed.

soap and water, spray right behind the plastic nut that screws hose to tank. hoses tend to leak at this spot after a few years of changing tanks. the brass wears thinner going through the nut tube and leaks. i am on my second set in 8 years.

Mine has gone off with very low battery, as mentioned previously by others.
