Re keying locks
Hi,
New member been lurking for a few weeks. Just picked up our new 831BHDS this weekend. One thing that surprised me is the number of different keys. Is it really necessary to have different keys for the front door, back door, slam latches, etc. Is it possible to change these locks to all use the same key?

I has been down that road as well. Over time you get used to having a maintenance man keyring. I generally keep everything but to do key in the TT. Anything to do with the hitch and truck is on a separate keyring in the truck. Or...just get a bigger key ring. You won't be able to match keys with all the different hatches and doors

You can get new storage door cams keyed to your door.

I did the same went to rvlocksandmore.com bought all new entrance door locks and compartment locks and had them keyed all alike. The compartment locks you have on all travel trailers are the same so anyone can open them that has an rv, didn't like that idea. Entrance doors, a lot of companies use the same company to purchase them and they only have small amount of key configurations so if someone gets lucky they may have one of your door keys. The keys I got with the new locks are double sided so they are different than most giving a piece of mind. I think it cost me about $70 to do my doors and compartments.

That's nice. Wish I would have seen that before I made the rookie mistake!

The ever so sad part of this is that if someone wants in your camper, guess what? They are getting in either through your door or window. The worst case is the pry the hell out of your door leaving your with missing silverware ($10.00) and replacing a new door ($500.00). Locks are meant to keep the honest out only. What's a few extra keys?

Although this is true, seeing someone walk up to your door and open with a key, less people will notice and say something. I think when they walk up carrying a crowbar someone is likely to notice and say something and get a description. Insurance is going to cover the door but when the criminal claims you gave him the key the insurance may not, and they will claim you gave it to them.
Otherwise why bother to lock the doors at all.

I got locked out of my camper. Deadbolt Key came out at 9 o'clock and could not get the key to go all the way in the cylinder again.I had a bad key cylinder. Not on the recall list. One that they should recall. Notified Fastec. Had my drill and bits in my compartment and very easily was able to drill cylinder out and use screwdriver to turn deadbolt open.

After seeing the posts about the recalled ones I lost confidence in the replacement for the recalled ones. Went to a different company and paid for a different ones and since I changed them I also changed the ones in the compartments.

End of last season, went to lock the camper up, and the deadbolt cylinder pulled right out with the key. Worked perfect up til.that point. Need to order a new one still...
