Recall Notice
I got "The Call" from Dexter today informing me that our 2019 Flagstaff 23FBDS is included in a NHTSA recall. According to the report, "The brake mounting flange is incorrectly oriented (clocked) on the axles in question. The brake (mounted on the flange) is therefore also incorrectly oriented."
If the brake flange is found to be out of specification, the axle must be replaced.
Production dates: July 9, 2018 - August 29, 2018.
Number of potentially involved: 1,785
Estimated percentage with defect: 100%

Dexter must have been having a bad day or two. They also put the wrong inner wheel bearing on 164 axles back in June/July.
A recall was issued for those too.
As for the improperly "clocked" brake mounting flange, good chance more than just one model was involved as axles are pretty much standard other than regular spring/torsion, and rated weights.

I got a call today from Dexter Axles about the recall notice. I bought my trailer a long way from home so I really don't want to go that far. The nice lady looked in my area and even though there are locations she thought they may be so busy with their own customers that they may not look at mine very fast. She offered to send me a kit so that I could perform the inspection and if we determine it is involved then we could pursue a location but if it is not involved then I would save some headache. I am perfectly comfortable crawling beneath my 2019 Flagstaff 21DS so I took her up on it. She said if I am unable to complete we could still go to a dealer for the inspection too. I get the kit next week. I will post back.

The notice that I received said that 100% of the trailers included in the serial number range had the problem axles and would need to be replaced.

I have a 2019 Flagstaff 26FKBS, purchased new in Oct. 2018. A couple of weeks ago I received a notice of possible recall for the trailers axles.
I called Dexter, hoping to find some additional information on the recall and spoke to Denice Schrock in the warranty and recall dept.
She was exceptionally pleasant, professional and helpful. By providing her pictures of the labels on both axles, she determined that my axles were indeed part of the defective batch. I was told that the incorrect flange angle could eventually lead to brake hardware failure.
On Mon. 1/14 she placed an order for 2 replacement axles to be shipped to my dealer. On Fri. 1/18 my dealer, Keystone RV, in Greencastle, PA called to tell me that they had received my new axles and they will be replaced next week.
No fun having problems like this, but all things considered, it was handled very well by Dexter and Keystone RV.

Axles were replaced Thursday 1/31.
Dropped my trailer off at 8:30 and 3 hours later it was ready for pickup.
Dexter axle and my dealer were responsive and pleasant to deal with.
Thanks.

Interesting! We have a 2018 Flagstaff and had the bolts back out of the flange, destroy the brake assembly and grind down the flange. We were lucky it didn't put us into a ditch.

Dexter "silent" recall
I see this thread goes back to fall 2018. I purchased our Flagstaff Classic 8529 IKBS in October 2018. I was never told by the dealer, Camping World, nor received a phone call from Dexter to report this issue. We took a lengthy trip this summer and had a brake failure coming out of the Rockies. I had to get it replaced immediately for fear of fire. I contacted Camping World who referred me to Dexter to get reimbursed for the repair. That is when I was told there was a silent" recall. When I got home I made a phone call to Camping World again and arranged for them to inspect the brakes/axels. They contacted Forest River/Dexter to find out my vehicle was never checked. I now have it in for the axels to be replaced, 4 weeks or more I was told. We cancelled a trip due to this. I am still waiting for reimbursement for the brake repair I paid for out of my pocket.

Bjo … does this 'recall' include the Dexter Torflex axles? That's what my 2019 8529IKBS has.

I dealt with a lady at dexter directly. I bought my trailer a long way from home and first they had to confirm I had bad axles. I did not want to waste time pulling it if not necessary. She send me some metal templates. I crawled under and placed the templates and took pictures. I emailed them to Dexter. This confirmed I had bad axles. She called a place in town and made arrangements for me. She shipped them the axles and told me when they arrived. I took my trailer in and got it back in about 10 days. My dealings with Dexter were great. The problem with the axles is the metal plate welded on the end of the axle was “clocked” at a wrong angle.

Was your trailer built during the dates shown in an earlier post?

Thanks TitanMike…. I missed the production dates. Apparently I'm good as we picked our unit up in late May of 2018. Still not feeling too warm and fuzzy. Probably need to call Dexter so they can confirm.
