Removing living room carpet
TOWTA is wanting to remove the carpet in the living room. Has anyone done this and how bad does it look from all the staples or nail holes? I think they lay the linoleum over the entire floor first and then the carpet.

We had Min.carpet, but still came in the Bed room.Took it out and pulled staples around the doors. Since they build the walls and everything else on TOP of the Carpet I had to put quarter round in to give the Finished look. The only carpet is the Flap and small piece in the slide/livingroom area. Our unit has the Plank wood linoleum so staple holes are Not noticeable. Oh,(Suffer) in the Heat! Youroo!!

OldCoot:
We did this before Goshen. Yes, the Linoleum was laid done first (also saw this in the factory tours), so the carpet can be removed.
As far as the staple holes, with our linoleum the holes blended in and unless you get down on the floor and look really hard they cannot be seen.
The hardest part was getting the carpet out from under the slide. There is a plastic strip that is over the carpet that has to be removed (and then reinstalled) before the staples can be removed. In our TT the slide comes very close to the wall with the entertainment center, and there were many staples in that area, and the carpet went under the wall - had to pull staples and cut the carpet at the same time to get a clean look.
One bit of advise - be very careful pulling the staples and be sure to get all of them. The linoleum is very thin and very easy to tear (I had one area, luckily it was under the flap of carpet on the slide, that tore a small amount. I repaired it with superglue.)
Over all it was an easy project. I started out away from the slide and worked my way towards the slide, cutting off sections of carpet as I went to keep the amount of carpet I had to work on down to a manageable amount.
Rick
(P.S. The carpet in the bedroom is just over plywood, no linoleum. I haven't decided what I will do with it)

We had our carpet replaced at Goshen last year. I wanted to leave the carpet off the non-sliding part of the RV. They wouldn't do that because as the slider moved in and out the over riding slide would leave marks on the linoleum. That being said I remember someone removing that carpet and noted the staple holes were not noticeable. They put down some sort of barrier to protect the linoleum when operating the slide.

I have heard that about the slide, but our slide leaves no tell tale signs on the carpet as the slide lifts immediately when retracted.

We've only opened/closed our slide maybe ten times since the carpet has been removed and don't see any sign of scrubbing or rubbing on the linoleum. Like yours, OldCoot, the slide lifts as soon as it starts out/in.

Thanks, IF, TOWTA suggests it again, I will remove the carpet immediately so she can't change her other mind again.

When it warms up tomorrow, out goes the carpet according to TOWTA. (It may come out today while she takes a nap. )

Do you recall what they charged for replacing the carpet?

Our 8280WS was ordered with minimum carpet, but I removed the carpet apron in front of the slide. You'd have to get on your hands and knees to see were the staples were.
I kept two pieces of the carpet I removed to put down on the lino at each end of the slide before bringing it in.

Well, the process has started. Dulled my carpet knife, so now off to Lowes for replacement blades. Lots of staples to remove from the super thick 3/8" foam rubber pad. (What a joke) TOWTA is starting to smile.

OldCoot you plan to remove all the carpet even on the slide? If so I would love to see the pictures of this project. How will you cover the seam where the slide joins the floor? We have been looking this project over but were unsure of how it would work out.

Not planning on removing the slide carpet, but I have toyed with the idea of adding underlayment and hardwood laminate and just rabbit out a custom made threshold on the back side and taper the front side. We'll see how this turns out when we get the carpet out.

Finished, finally. Not an easy job, but TOWTA is HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, so all is well. We'll see how long it is before she wants laminate flooring put down.
