Replace water heater

we are considering replacing our 6 gallon water heater with a 10 or 12 gallon. I don't really want to cut the opening any bigger. Has anyone done this and can offer up suggestions. The 6 is a Suburban Duel electric and propane. Thinking of staying with the Suburban brand so wireing, plumbing, etc. is the same. Easy to get to inside of compartment it dwells in since it is under kitchen sink. Flagstaff 28RKWS. Thanks
