Tire choices

Which one would you choose?

I have the original tires that came on my 2005 RAM 2500.
They have 61K on them now and were made in 2004.
I use it about 4 times a year to take trips with the TT(2012 Flagstaff 30 WRLTS Vlite weighing 8,400 loaded).
It's obvious, I don't drive it much with only 61k in 10 years!
With the age of the tires, I feel like I'm pushing my luck while towing.
Michelin(Load Range E) is what I need replaced.
Went shopping today to 5 reputable tire dealers in town and this is the best (out the door)prices I came up with:

Firestone TransForce HT OWL LT $1,037
Goodyear Wrangler $1,233
Dunlap Rover $1,122
General OWL Grabber $934
Michelin LTX $1,220

All came with a Road Hazard warranty.

The last 2(Generals and Michelins) came with a frontend alignment already figured in with the price.

So basically, $300 separates the prices, which one will lead the pack in durability and comfort of ride?

What say you?

which ltx tires? there are m/s , m/s2, and a/t2

I have had a/t2's and m/s2's. the m/s2's are the best tire I have ever ran on a vehicle.

I ran a set of Michelin ltx at 's for 10 years/95000 miles and they were still decent. I now run transforce ht's and will see.you may be fine running your current tires another year or two, but if you have the money I really like the michelins

This is what is on the tire quote for the Michelins:
LT265/70R17/10 MIC ORWL M/S2 LTX
GRN X 121R 70K

I don't really know what all the #'s mean but it is similar to what I have on the truck now.

Size and load rating. Thy are the m/s2's. They would be my choice. I found they had really good traction.

If you wanted to know 265/70/17. 121r

265 is the width of the tire in mm
70 is the sidewall height. 70 percent of 265mm
17 is the rim size.
121 is the load index. 3197 lbs per tire
R is the speed rating 106 mph

That's good info.
And also good to know that it can go 106 mph! I was wondering about that the other day when I broke 100.
In golf that is!

I thought breaking 100 was the goal in golf. I always try and get my money's worth and take as many shots as possible. Lol

ORWL should mean Outlined Raised White Letter and LT should mean Light Truck if I am not mistaking.

ALRIGHT, you're officially off the topic!

Well since you are, let me say this, I only count the shots I like and only after I have hit a few mulligans and then I take the best one!

I don't think you can really ever go wrong with a set of Michelin's. You usually pay a little more but, IMO it is one of the best tires out there.

With that being said, I've run General's on my Titan without any issues and they lasted a long time as well. I've also run General's on one of my other vehicles with almost 70,000 miles on them.

Not that it helps but, i've had good luck with both and I guess you are sort of looking for opinions and advice...

Good luck!

I just put LTX A/S on my Ford for hauling and all around traction in the snow. They are full E rated tires for towing and tough sidewalls for stability.

Compared to stock Perrelli's they are much better.

Yeah, I am looking for opinions. But these were the choices these particular dealers were offering. I guess this is what they wanted to sell.

Would there be any other makes of tires I should look at?

Take a look here at TireRack. I have a Ram 2007 Megacab, same tires as your. I let Tirerack show me what they had. A good list to check just the tire price and consumer feedback on each.

Michelins I find get the most mile for your dollar. Run them on all my vehicles except my new truck...came with Firestones. I don't like Firestone.
