I find it amazing that some people think that because they have done something once (or 10 times (or a hundred)) that they can expect those same results EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Regardless of any and all conditions. I.E. Weather, traffic, fatigue, age of equipment, ETC... ETC... ETC...

As the cute Volkswagen shows, you can tow with anything, but can you stop it in a real emergency. On our recent trip through the New Mexico mountains towing a 11,000lb dry weight 5th wheel with a pair of 7,000lb axels, my ram 3500 dually 6.7 passed the test. Cruise set on 60mph saw a very small car appearing to be struggling to make the grade had his flashers on I moved into the passing lane when all of a sudden car in front of him was breaking heavily slipped into my lane to avoid hitting a car in front of him. I got on the brakes hard my truck never swerved the 5th wheel remained rock solid behind the truck and I was able to safely stop. I checked my mirrors and a small suv was off the road just past the 5th wheel bumper on the left side shoulder. Can a 1/2 ton pickup towing a 5th wheel or a long travel trailer safely make that kind of stop? I wouldn't want to be in front of it to see. My advice is if you want to tow big get the right equipment. 1/2 ton might pull but stopping the pull is the real test.

1/2 ton pick up
I tow with a half ton pick with LT TIRES air bags anti roll bar on the rear and helper springs and up graded the brakes it no rocket ship but it gets the job done yes a 3/4 ton would be nice but it not in the budget so with all the up grades it's almost like having a 3/4 ton , I have one more up grade and its a double roll hd radiator

By the time you added the upgrades, I'm sure your 1/2 ton cost more than many 3/4 tons from the same year... Like I said earlier, I found a 2 year-old 3/4 ton for $14K when 2 year-old 1/2 tons were all costing $20K. Then I would have had to spend another $2K to upgrade tires, air bags, etc...

So you negotiated the price on both vehicles and that was the result? I don't believe that for a minute.

I guess I'm not sure what's being asked here. But if you already have the bigger truck, why not keep it?
We tow our trailer with a 1500. Our trailer is 6500 pounds fully-loaded (we got her weighed). Our (new truck) has a tow capacity of 9500# we have not towed with it yet so once we do, we'll see how it goes.
Our old truck had a tow capacity of 7k. It was okay towing but when we took it down to Disney and had to go on the hills there and in Tallahassee (where we're from), you could really feel the limitation of power. We didn't have any problems at all stopping but again these were hills and not mountains! The trip to Disney convinced us that we should get a new truck...we were previously going back and forth about it because our old truck still runs good and has ac (required in FL ).

I have never paid a sticker price for a new vehicle of any type. I have also never paid the asking price for a used vehicle. At least an owners asking price is an actual starting point. A sticker/MSRP for a new vehicle is for the unsuspecting. . .

Canada offers free CUMMINS at least, twice a year.
Various other discounts that the 1500 doesn't have.
Don't believe me?

Negotiated 19k trade for an 08 f350 v10, that I paid 12k for, 6 months prior.
Anyways... I know what I paid.
Don't need to prove it to anyone.

I thought you didn't care . . .
And yes, negotiation is possible with 1/2 ton trucks also. All truck stickers are highly inflated.

I didn't know Florida had "hills", I guess if you were feeling the limitation on those "hills" you most likely do need a new TV!

We have been pulling a Rockwood 8329ss for 2 years with a 1/2 ton Tundra and have no problems. I believe the weights are very close to what you noted in your first blog.
We cruise at 60 & have no breaking problems.
If u want to downgrade the Tundra is a great truck.

I have to admit I found this hard to believe, but with the help of Professor Google, I found the offer from RAM Canada:
https://www.ramtruckoffers.ca/en/offers/ontario/3500
It's absolutely true!! ... or at least it was ... I tried pricing a 3500 on their website and it doesn't show that offer so I assume it's no longer available. Also, it seems to only be available on the 3500, not the 2500.
