We've driven that route a few times the last year of so between Orlando and Pigeon Forge. Found a nice, not fancy but clean and quiet, RV park on the west side of Columbia called Barnyard RV park. Very reasonable, large spaces. Can get crowded on weekends as it is attached to a flea market there but very nice for a one night stay over. That's an easy day's drive from Central Florida to there for the first night.

If you only need 6~10 hours to sleep, why pay for campground amenities you won't use? I've lost count of the nights I've parked in highway rest areas, truck stops, and local merchants (Walmart, Cabelas, Cracker Barrel etc). If you'll need to dump tanks, get water etc, one night in a campground might be prudent but, some truck plazas have those facilities, usually for far less than the cost of a noght in a private campground. Save your money for use at your final destination.

X2 that's what I have heard. Long steep pulls on 77 vs the 95,17,66,81 route.
Getting ready for my first trip Fl to NY thinking that's the way to go. Appreciate comments.

This is the preferred route for RVs, for sure. Just remember Rt. 17 intersects I-95 in Fredericksburg, Va. (Frederick is in Maryland - hey, you've invented the "geo-typo." )

We just finished our trip from Port St. Lucie Florida to Oswego New York . We took 4 days going from 275 miles a day to tops 399 miles a day. 3 great KOA's Savannah South, Fancy Gap VA and Jonestown PA. Our 2016 RAM 2500 diesel turbo conquered the mountains of North Carolina Virginia and PA like a charm. Routes used 95 to 26 to 77 to 81 to 481.
