Wish I got the 250 to start with.
That is the exact mistake I made. Should have skipped the F250 and went right to the F350 where I am now! Not much payload difference if going to a diesel which is the only way to go for mountains.

I have both an F250 and F350. The only difference in the driveline is in the rear ends, 3.73 and 3.55. Both are 4X4. The 350 16.5 - 18.5 locally and 17 through the mountains at 70 mph and 19.2 on the flat at the same speed. The 250 will see .5 to .7 more except highway flat which is about the same. Both trucks hate city and get around 14.5 - 16 max. Mileage is not as great until 15,000 - 18,000 miles. Never a problem and both trucks see about 40,000 miles annually. My last 6.7 was 4 years old, and XLT not Lariat like the current, and had 212700.

I've towed 7k pounds across the country twice so far with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It has been an effortless experience and I can't recommend it enough. However, I would personally draw the line right about where I'm at. I like the feeling of "buffer". I'm sure with the F150 chassis at the weight you propose, you'd have the feeling of "making a lesser tool do the job".

Good call going F250.
