Also having trouble un-hitching. Thinking about grease but what kind to use?
Lube grease (black grease) or WD-40?

Had an old trucker friend that said use Vaseline, at least you can wash it off your hands and clothes. Used it for yrs. Doesn't make quite the mess and just about comes out of clothes.

The same vaseline we can also use on the wd bars.
Could using greese or vaseline be detrimental for hitching? Not like it's going to just slide out while driving right?

I used it on the ball, wd bars and the pivots on the 2 friction sway controls. If the wd bars are engaged, the trailer coupler will not come off the ball, BUT, it should be latched and locked/pinned.
If you have the Reese sway control bars with the crook in the ends, DO NOT grease them.

Equalizer recommends white lithium grease.
I used it on everything. Still use it on my Sliderite hitch rails.

It will no doubt reduce the noise, but IMO it will also reduce the sway control somewhat. How much? Don't have a clue, but if it were me, I would put up with the noise when making slow turns.
You don't hear it a highway speeds where you need all the sway control you can get.

I have the same problem; I usually jump on the bumper while raising the jack.
I might try some Franks Red Hot sauce on it though, because I hear that you can put that sh!t on everything.

Sounds fair, no vaseline for the bars. Noise not a big deal. Safety is!

I had the same problem , new trailer , hitch 4way equalizer .
I put new grease on the inside coupler and the ball
Another person suggested to stand on the bars
When I park I chock the wheels and snug the trailer forward . That puts the ball forward , raise the the trailer and step on the bars and the ball slips right out , the more you do it the easier. It will get

I have trunnion hitch with 2 way sway control and there is no way im putting lube on the bars. The design of the trunnion style is to limit sway with the metal on metal friction and lubing them will eliminate what the bars were made to do.
WD40 is a great CLEANER but not a long lasting lubricant (especially in the elements). White Lithium Grease is great though.

If it's a Reese Dual Cam it's ok to use vaseline on the contact points, but the instructions say use a very light coating. I've been putting it on my Reese DC and it sure helps with the noise.

How much noise can it possibly make? Mine only makes noise on tight turns which is only a couple of times a trip.

The noise varies by setup. I had one trailer with an Equal-i-zer and barely any noise. Current trailer can get a bit noisy.
I just tell myself that other campers in the CG recognize the noise for what it is - a working WDH.
Although, I do have a piar of their Sway Bracket Jacket designed to quiet the ride. Haven't put them on, yet, though.

Yes, only during turns and it can be quite loud sometimes, or seems loud anyway. I have to make 4 turns just to get out of my housing area.

I have these on my setup - it does reduce some of the noise but I found most of my noise was coming from the hitch head where the bars swing in and out (pivot point) - I put a dab of grease under there and reduced alot of the noise and still have no sway
I added a picture of where I grease the hitch head

Good points Sherdep. I grease mine there, too, and it helps. I've had the jackets for a year now and always intend to install before a trip but you now how it is. So many projects and so little time.

it takes less then a minute to install them - just slide from the bottom and they are on - those jackets will save the bottom of the bars too
I understand about the so many projects so little time - in the same boat
