water filter blow out

Well, into our 4th trip with our 25ds. Using a fresh water tank and the pump. At 2am last evening we heard a bam and the pump started to constantly run. Water ran into the bathroom. Frantically mopping up at 2 am.
My hubby tightened the filter, we turned on the pump this morning and it was almost like it was twisting it self off of the base. Water everywhere. I guess we now have to take it in. Any one hear of this? Almost thinking about an external filter and getting rid if the one in the little compartment

Mine and many others have done the same thing. It would unscrew itself under a known 45PSI and blow the housing off. Some folks use a PEX patch to eliminate the filter and use an external, I replaced mine with a GE Watersmart filter housing in the place of the original.

It's a junk design with expensive exclusive filters.

What kind of water pressure is exerted when you are using the water tank vs a water source /spiket? Just wondering.

My suggestion is to remove the filter housing and patch the gap with some Pex and Pex fittings and move to the inline from Walmart or a filter from Lowes or Home depot.

What do you use for a filter if using the water tank?

The big problem here is when you put the filter on, you have to use the provided wrench and push UP at the bottom of the filter with the final tightening so it will seat itself (I made sure to have "Filter replacement" as a maintenance task at Goshen and to watch the tech as he installed the filter )

Thanks hsvbamabob! When we picked up the trailer the filter was not in. The tech did kind of walk him through it. He did use the wrench but I don't know about the pushing up to seat..we will have to try that.

Same setup as my water tank fill and city are the same connection.
Is your tank gravity feed?

Ford Idaho. We have a pump that moves it out of the water tank. We are filling from the water station. No individual water hook ups at the site.

My new filter is visually very similar and mounted directly in the same location with just a couple of adapters for the lines. It uses 10X2" common filters and you can choose the quality from a basic sand filter to a filter that filters out half the water I think. I went with the 5 micron carbon filters, $11 for a two pack.

This is the one issue with going to the external filter setup. But if you keep your fresh tank sanitized yearly and use the filter on the water you put into the tank that's nearly as good.

I tried pushing up on the housing as I tightened it and it still screwed off, almost as if once it happened the first time it was going to happen again. I tightened it up and repositioned the wrench so that it would hit the wall and not allow the housing to unscrew any more. Between that and the high price of the filter it made the choice to replace it easy.

X2 on push it up and wrench it tight. I bought filters 3 for $30 at Goshen. According to the distributer the push up part is important.

Here is the simple thing that has worked for me.

Dry off the housing and adapter threads real good before screwing the filter back on.

Thanks snight. My hubby tried to hold it tight manually while I turned on the pump and he couldn't hold it back from unscrewing.

Been there done that. REMOVE THE FILTER!!! PEX pipe and fittings and buy an outside filter. If you don't, plan on buying a shop vac to keep in the TT.

Thanks slympicins and Idaho...LOL!! I figured such. We had a fan blowing on the floor when we got home yesterday. Taking it to dealer as under warranty but I dont know if what they do will fix it. I dont trust it. Had water go all over when we tried to initially install the cartridge into the container. I think I had a thread already on that fiasco..if you use state park water to fill the clean water tank over by the dump station, how do you filter it from their spiket?

Here's what we did with our filter. It's gone. I had read a bunch about the filter housing spinning loose on here. Finally about a month or so ago, I replaced the filter cartridge, and watched the thing spin itself loose. I had removed the filter housing several times before when leaving it at the dealer during the winter, but had never had it come loose until a month ago. That was enough for me, as I've never had any filter do that. That problem, along with the fact you can't just buy that replacement filter anywhere was enough for me to ditch it. The filter was where those 2 stainless knock out plugs are now. I'll just use an external from now on.
