Water filter in Microlite

Flagstaff Microlite 21FBRS. The water filter that is installed in this trailer..does it filter both hose water AND fresh tank water?

Yes. See attached generic plumbing pic at the bottom of this post.

You may want to consider removing it and using an external filter. If it's an FR1 , like in the pic below, there are many horror stories of them cracking and flooding trailers.

It can be replaced with a 1/2 PVC coupler.

Here's mine:

If you remove it and use an external filter, it won't filter your FW tank water. However, if you use the filter when filling your FW tank, it will already be filtered.

Perfect..thank you for the pic..I do also have a blue external filter on the hose. What would cause the FR1 filter to crack? I've been using mine for over 5 years and so far no problems with it. It's easy to change the filter and my water is filtered twice. It tastes delicious and I'm not contributing to the fake clean water phenomenon of bottled water. What a scam! But I will keep an eye on the FR1. Be a big bummer for that thing to break.

I'm not sure of the cracking mechanism, but definitely many reports of it happening.

I use the “blue” in hose filters from Walmart.
I like to filter the water before it flows into the TT.

I have heard reports of the housing cracking, but I have never seen any photos of one that has cracked. I have used this filter and housing for over 6 years without any problem what so ever!! The only complaint that I have is that the filter itself is so damned expensive, but the filter does perform spectacularly! I have looked at all the alternatives and I have decided to keep using this filter system. We set up on my daughter's property with full hook ups and tap into their well water. My daughter is very "anal" about her water quality. Of course, well water will produce a "Sulphur" smell that some find offensive. My daughter has her water tested every 4 months for EVERYTHING !!! Chemicals, bacteria, minerals... whatever... EVERYTHING!!! It costs her, but like I said, she wants clean water with no insecticides, round-up residues... whatever. It still has a Sulphur smell in her house... but not in the camper!!! The filter gets rid of that Sulphur smell entirely. When I am camped at her house, I also get my water tested. My test results come back a little better than hers. No sulphites, organics, bacteria or pesticides / glycophides. I think it is because of the KW1 filter system. I am going to keep mine. NOTHING CAN COMPARE WITH THE SPECS !!!

Lots of reports of leaks. But you're right, no photos that I've found. But they've leaked from the O-ring, and they've cracked. Put "filter leak" into the search field above and you'll get a lot of threads.

Not all well water smells of sulfur. Mine doesn't. I've been on it for 35 years. The sulfur smell seems to be more of a southern US issue, I think.

ours cracked at the teeth where it screws back together but we were initially unable to appreciate that problem; thought we had just jostled loose.... was a MESS to clean up - twice. Have changed out our unit now
