Water Filter on FBRS

Hello again. My DH and I have found where to place the water filter but can't get the water container what ever it's called open. The manual says turn counterclockwise. We are having trouble getting it to come off. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Try opening a couple (3-4) water faucets to vent pressure.

If you do break the housing do not worry much.

Be sure to put a towel or two under it.

We have a new CC 36RE and are having the same problem. We have use the wrench without success and even had a plumbing friend try to get it open. He stopped trying as he was afraid of breaking it. We'll try turning on a couple of faucets and try again.

Was it a wrench you had or a filter remover?

It was a white plastic wrench that came with the camper

I just remove my water filter as the container backed out after a day as literally while I was taking to some friends. It was tight as from the pressure, backed out and blew off. Water everywhere. My advise...don't put one in. If you want one, use an inline filter at the hose bib.

We tried turning both ways without success but it was turning the faucets on to relieve pressure that finally worked and we were able to get the cvontainber open. Thanks!

The first time I tried removing the filter canister it was a little tough to do as well. Relieving water pressure helped but found better result's by moving the wrench as high up on the canister as possible. Before I reinstalled the filter and canister, I applied a thin coat of vaseline on the canister threads. It made removal of the canister much easier the next time I had to take it off.

Do not use petroleum jelly on plastic threads it will degrade the plastic and cause the threads to crack

Home Depot sells a water soluble grease that can be placed on the O-ring only. It can be found in the plumbing section of Home Depot

Had trouble with mine too. It is a BEAR to break free. I climbed halfway in the compartment, held the top of the filter unit with one hand, and torqued like the devil on the wrench. It finally broke free.

One thing to remember is that these water filters--at least the stock ones most of us have in our rigs- are just sediment filters. Which is fine - youwant to filter out the bits and pieces of sand, calicum scale and whatnot...they are cloggers of RV pipes

These filters are NOT filters for drinking water.

To filter water for impurities, taste and whatnot for drinking/cooking purposes is a completely different type of filteration (and not one I would install on a whole RV water line - it would decrease your watter pressure a *lot* and turn your shower into a trickle...besides, do you really need filtered water for your toilet?

For water to drink and cook with, I would recommend either using bottled water or getting a good sized brita filter pitcher.

Yup. I agree. No water filter in camper. Water bottles to drink.

I use carbon filters. No loss in pressure
