Water Pump Issue

We are dry camping for the first time in our 2011 Flagstaff Classic and have had some water pump issues. There seems to be air in the lines. I've tried running the water to bleed the air and that works for a bit. The pump will kick on and prime and shut off. After a while it will kick in with a very low hum and run constantly. It's barely audible enough to hear unless you walk over to it. When I turn the water on when it's doing the low hum, I get air in the line and eventually the pump will get louder and prime again. Any thoughts on this? I checked all connections and even bypassed the filtration system. Just thought I'd see if anyone else had this issue before replacing the pump. Thanks!

You have a slight water leak somewhere. My pump did this for a year until I found the leak. Check your bath room toilet for leaking first. My leak turned out to be a connection inside a wall of the bathroom. Had to peel a wall back to fix it. I would not recommend that you leave the pump 'on' when you are not using water because you may leave and then have a more large leak and water everywhere when you return. Your lines should stay pressurized, even with the pump off if you have nothing that is 'bleeding' the pressure off.

Verify your outside shower is completely turned off. Sounds like the pump is on because of a small leak (or faucet not being completely turned off). Good luck!

Since you're getting air when you first open a faucet it possibly could be the check valve in the pump head allowing back pressure to escape. I think typically if there is a leak the pump would cycle full on (momentarily) and off and there wouldn't be any air when opening a faucet. Of course this would be according to how the pump on/off adjustment is set. Just a thought.

I believe there is an issue with the pump head. It is damp in the pump housing and I can hear what sounds like air or water moving when the pump turns on. I checked the outside shower and made sure everything was tight and off. Was hoping that might be the easy fix 😬

Checked it and it was tight. I plan to hook up to city water when I get home tomorrow to see if the air issue stops. If it's a leak it should continue to have air in the lines I would think.

*UPDATE* I ended up taking the camper to the dealer since we have the extended warranty. It was a faulty bypass valve on the back of the water heater. They replaced it and all worked well when I tested it!

This describes what my pump was doing this last weekend. I stopped at dealer and they found that the water inlet to the pump had a loose fitting which allowed it to suck in air and loose it's prime at times. It does seem better now.
