It is simply an access door for the plumbing - filter stuff- they put the hardware on for two reasons--- to match the existing hardware in the area and to make it fairly easy (remove a couple screws) to access this area for repairs or winterizing...at least that's what a factory rep told me 😁

On our '05 Rockwood that's the what the furnace air intake looks like. Why the mount with hinges on all sides is beyond me.
