What is this item next to the door?

We just purchased our first travel trailer which is a 2011MicroLite 23LB. On the outside of the trailer next to the door, there is some kind of plastic bracket and we are not sure what it is for. We bought the camper at a car dealership who took it in as a trade in and the salesman didn't know what it is. We even had it inspected by a man that has worked in the RV industry for 10 years and he didn't even know what it is. Anyone know?

Is it on the hinge side of the door? Is it for a door latch? Do you have a pic of it? That might help a bit more..

I think you may be talking about the bracket for putting the tv outside. If so it would have two slots in it the the tv mount slides down into.

It's on the open side of the door, not the hinge side

Wink Thermometer bracket

This looks like the holding bracket for the external part of a weather station. The sensor clips into this bracket. Inside you would place the temperature screen module. These units display the inside and outside temperatures for you. Some units also show humidity, time and general weather conditions. Our unit has a little guy that strips down from a winter parka to a bathing suit as the temperature climbs.

I have three of those. It is a mounting bracket for a La Crosse Technology Radio-Controlled Weather Station sending unit.

This is the model: La Crosse Technology WS-7014CH-IT Wireless Forecast Station.

You can find them on Amazon for about $30.00.

Needless to say I like the La Crosse product and use mine at home and on the road with my TT.

Would that be something that would have come with the camper when new because there is no sign of the unit anywhere in the camper, just the bracket outside the door.

I can't imagine it ever coming with an RV. I am pretty sure you could by the sending unit and mount separate. My guess would be that the bracket was left behind by whoever mounted it. That would prevent having to fill the hole in the sidewall. Also, you don't have to mount the sending unit to use it. It can be set anywhere and it will send a signal to the base station.
