What the heck (possible backup camera)
A newbie here. Just bought a 2016 28' Flagstaff 5th wheel. Can anybody tell me what the black thing is mounted just below the 3 upper running lights on the back of the trailer . it looks like a back up camera but I don't see a lens???

It’s highly possible that’s it is the back up camera prep housing, they have a plate that is removed to install the camera in. Camera is many times sold separate.Like ependydad said: if you have a photo we can give you a more informed answer.

Sometimes just attached to the clearance light above it, sometimes wired to junction where the tow wire harness leads.

I think you mean upload. Use the Manage Attachments option not the Add Video/Image button, and it should resize the pics when it posts.


Most likely there will be a pin on the trailer connector assigned to the camera. Typically it is the backup light pin because it is rare to have a reversing light on a 5th wheel or TT or anything other than a coach.

If it looks like this... it's for the Furrion wireless camera.
There is a back-up camera and an observation camera.
Most prefer the observation camera.
There are lots of prior discussions on this subject.

That is a pre-prep package for a backup/observation camera, that one looks like it is for the furrion backup/observation camera. If you take cover of the power cable should be right there, mine connects into a 12v circuit that is on all the time as long as the battery disconnect is turned on.

My 2017 Micro Lite was wired to the running lights, so my camera is on when they are on.

Housing for the Furrion camera. Ours is on when the running lights are on.Pull the cover off and you will totally understand.

Mount for a backup camera. Is prewired and powered when headlights are on.
