What's behind the wall marked "TV Mount"

We have purchased a full motion tv bracket for our bedroom in our new 832ikbs! Little scared of the unknown factor of what's behind the wall! Is there a wood stud or plywood to screw into? Need had to mount a TT television. Thanks

If there is a sticker on the wall that says TV mount there will be a backer plate to mount a bracket to. This is what Forest River sent me regarding the backer plate in our camper.

In my 832ikbs it is a steel plate. I used a magnet to mark the edges. Very carefully drilled pilot holes and used the shortest #10 screws that would get into the plate.

What year is your 832ikbs? Was the steel plate in your bedroom?

In my case there was only empty space behind that sticker.

Oh my!!! I can tell there is something there because when I knock across the wall you can hear the difference. Doesn't sound hollow!

2016. Yes the plate was in the wall for the bedroom TV. The tv above the fireplace is mounted into wood with many small screws. I had to modify the OEM mount to fit the replacement I installed for the living room.

TV MOunt

On mine (373 QSI) during the PDI, the tech pressed on the wall at that point, "Here's your TV mount spot." He pushed on it, and the wall depressed deeply. I removed the plug plate, and stuck a small inspection mirror in there. NO backer. Nearest stud is about 8 inches away. I might bridge between studs with a 3/8 narrow strip of plywood and mount to that, but that wall is nothing but tissue paper.

I believe the spot in mine that's labelled "TV mount" is also just hollow. I have no plans to mount one in that spot as it's for a second TV but it still seems cheesy to label a spot that isn't what it says it is.

I received this reply from Forest River regarding "what's behind my wall" that says TV Mount!!!

Good morning,
The tv backer will be marked by a sticker. The sticker will mark then center of a 10” by 10” aluminum backer if the sticker is on an exterior wall, if it is on an interior wall it will be a 10” by 10” plywood backer. Unfortunately we do ot have a diagram for this.

Since it is an exterior wall, ours will be aluminum..... should I use metal screws?

I would have the dealer install it! That plate is thin and while drilling a pilot hole it poked thru the outside..... now I think an install would be cheaper then a gel-coat repair

I would just get the drill point screws, as large as you can find that's about 1 inch long

On my 2014 832IKBS there was a metal plate. Be sure you use a stop on your drill bit to keep from going to deep. You can wrap several turns of electrical tape on the drill bit or you can get a bit stop collar from a hardware store. If I remember right the outside wall is only 1-3/4 inches thick. Check where the door latch is to be sure. I used 1-1/2 inch self tapping sheet metal screws and drilled the holes with a 1/8 inch drill bit.

This was what mine is as well.

My backer on the exterior wall was metal and I could easily find the size by placing a magnet on the wall.

I was also told by the factory that if on the exterior it would be metal (not aluminum as mentioned earlier) and use a magnet and wood if on an interior wall.

Keep in mind while there was a metal backer in the wall, it is VERY thin and pushing on the wall results in flexing just as if nothing was behind it.

The suggestion of a drill stop is good advice. I drilled mine expecting a much thicker piece of metal and so was pushing fairly hard. When the drill went through easily, I was glad I had a drill depth stop on.
