2011 Ford 150 Crew Cab 3.5L V6 Econboost

Newbie Question Alert: We're looking at buying the used truck in the subject line, but wondering if it will easily tow our 2016 Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S. When we bought the TT from the dealer, they did install weight distribution/sway and brake synchronizers.

You need to post the truck's specs.
There's probably dozens of different configurations of the truck.
Just posting the year and engine isn't enough to say, for sure, that it's good to tow your trailer.

When you say "brake synchronizers", did you mean brake controller?

I'm assuming you're asking because you're not thrilled with the ability of your Ram 1500??

As you hopefully know already, not all 1/2 ton pickups are created equal. You need to look at the owners manual here:

http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Fo.../11f12og3e.pdf

Read all the stuff on towing starting around page 256 and check out the Maximum Trailer Weight table starting on page 265. You need to find the actual truck you are considering buying. As you can see, the towing limit ranges from 5,500 lbs to 11,300 lbs - quite a large spread.

To find YOUR trucks limit, you'll need to know:

engine size
HD towing package
wheelbase
rear axle ratio
Regular Cab/SuperCab/SuperCrew

Also, what you can't find directly in the owners manual is the payload. Assuming you have access to the actual truck, look on the drivers door frame for the sticker with the cargo/payload limit. This number has to cover 1) any passengers, 2) any "stuff" you load, 3) the weight of the weight distributing hitch and 4) the actual tongue weight of the trailer. (If you don't know your actual tongue weight, assume 15% of the GVWR, which is listed on the sticker on the front left side of the trailer. Ignore the dry weight number - the only thing it's good for is fooling newbies into thinking their SUV can pull it.)

Good luck.

I do not think you will have any trouble towing that camper with a crew cab and the 3.5L ecoboost. I have a 2016 2.7L ecoboost crew cab and it tows my 2306 like nothing is back there.

I have almost the same truck but there may be some subtle differences that add up. We have 3.55 rear diff, 7200lb GVW package, tow package, etc.

Once I dialed in the E4 weight distribution hitch, have some nice LT tires, and some AIRLIFT 5000 airbags I am now very comfortable towing our Rockwood 2703WS. I have 156,000 plus miles on the truck and aside from oil changes and spark plugs maintenance is minimal.

Hope this helps.

Here's the correct and easy answer: Yes.

It doesn't matter what options or packages the truck has. The worst possible version of the 3.5L EB for towing will still drag that MiniLite around with ease.

That truck will tow that trailer easily, but...the payload will be the limiting factor. My 2012 F150 EB payload was only 1250 lbs. It towed our 2703WS without any problems but with a tongue weight close to 1000 lbs it was overloaded even though the the towing capacity was more than the weight of the trailer.

When you're talking "payload", can you be more specific? Sorry - newbie here. And does weight distribution make a difference? We have that from our earlier setup.

I agree, likely it can pull it. As others have asked, what is the cargo capacity of the truck (yellow sticker on the drivers door)? Looks like max GVW of the trailer is 5200 lbs, so high end good tongue weight is about 780 lbs. So your people and stuff have to be less than the truck CC -780 or you are overloaded. My truck would handle it with ease.

My payload is closer to 1900.

The yellow sticker on the driver side door post says the combined weight of passengers and cargo must not exceed XXXX. Tongue weight is considered cargo.

A weight distribution hitch does not change the towing or cargo capacities.

In fact, a WDH will ADD 50-75lbs to your tongue weight; don't forget that.

Boilers - have you located the CCC ( yellow sticker) ? Our Eco handled our 26 foot TT (see sig) nicely as we traveled around Florida and south Ga.

That is a smooth, powerful, and quite engine. The only thing my truck lacks is a larger gas tank.

Good luck and happy camping !
