2013 Rockwood 8289WS (Platinum)

Wife and I ended up buying a 2013 Rockwood 8289WS (Platinum) model for a good discount and giving us a very good Trade-in value for our 2005 Fleetwood Orbit 29RLS. I was given a very good deal with my Orbit that I can't pass up. Wife and I walked out of the dealership with a big smile on our face. I bought a 7 year warranty that was offered by the dealership. It covers everything in the trailer for seven years... Anyway, 29 Jun 2013 is the PDI, can't wait...

Do you guys think the dealer have a list of all the recalls that applies to Rockwood trailers and that they make sure that it's taken cared of prior to delivery? So far from reading here, the Awning and the Sky light had been recalled. Anything else? Thanks for the info...

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your 2013 Rockwood 8289WS. I would tell your dealer that you are aware of these recalls and ask/tell them to make sure your unit is checked.

How did the pick up go for the new Fiver? We are trading a faulty 11month old 2703ss on a 8289diamond edition next week. Hope all is well.

The PDI came out okay. Minor stuff that was immediately fix. We are currently camping right now. But we are still trying to set everything up. Putting stuff away where they belong. We forgot to get an adapter from 50amps to 30 amps. Thanks to Walmart save our day. So far everything is awesome..

Well, our first night with our trailer was an eventful.. Everything works!!! We use only one a/c and keeps the inside pretty cold. My wife got up three times in the middle of the night to adjust the thermostat.

I asked the dealer about the recalls. But I was told my particular model was not affected.. How do I know that this trailer was not affected? Is there a serial number or Vin affected range?

We also have a 8289WS Diamond Edition which we picked up May 10th (bought from dealers lot - show model). Had one of the shades over the island fall off on way home but that was an easy fix. Have camped 7 nights so far but never had to use our A/C (only one) but good to hear that only one kept you cool. We'll try ours out in a couple weeks with a 7 night trip. We have used the fireplace and really minimizes the furnace coming on on those nights down into low 40's upper 30's. Don't be suprised when having FP on and it shuts off when turning on Microwave, they can't run together but can turn FP back on 20 sec after Micro finishes.
Enjoy your new 5'er.

MarcusN, thanks for the tip about the micro and fp. We probably won't use the fireplace at all. Wife and I tend to hibernate in the winter. Lol..

We are really enjoying our mini camping.. It's almost like being at home..

Glad to hear things are going smooth on your first outing. We currently have a Rockwood 2607 (2010) and promised ourselves we would keep it at least 6-7 years before even thinking of trading up, but I saw the 8289WS and fell in love with it. The problem is we would also have to upgrade our TV to be able to tow it so at this point we will need to wait a while . This may sound like a dumb question but where did you decide to put your trashcan? One of my pet peeves is that most RVs have no place to put one. Hope you have a great camping season!

Hi Kaz1, we are loving our new RV. I 'm in the same boat as you are with the TV.. But my dealer assured me that I shouldn't have any problem with my Truck... Attached is a picture with my truck and the trailer.

My truck didn't sag or bugged down nor did it have a problem going uphill but of course diesel is still the preferred TV..

Concerning the trash, my wife is still searching for a better place to put the trash can. The designer of this trailer omitted that part.... But minor issue to be concerned of. I just throw the trash everyday.... LOL...

Here's a pic at the camping ground inside the Base..

Rambilt, you stated that you only used the one A/C and I see you have two. Which A/C did you use that cooled the trailer fine and what were the temps you were dealing with. We only have the 13.5 single A/C as most of our camping is in Michigan & Ontario and night time temps are usually no more the mad 70's at the worst and so concerned as to how effective the single 13.5 A/C should be.

MarcusN, the spot that we got only had a 30 amp connection. Thank god for Walmart for carrying the 50 to 30 amp adapter. We use the main A/C only, the pole circuit breaker couldn't handle the second A/C. The temperature last Saturday was 103F degrees.

We bought an oval stainless steel trash can from WalMart and put it right inside the door between the fire extinguisher and the Entertainment/Dinette slide. Oval= it doesn't tip over, and we don't have to move it from that location to close the slide. It also helps keep you from bumping into the fire extinguisher. It uses tall kitchen bags, so all the paper plates and stuff don't fill it up right away.

Our 2013 Platinum with all options except 2nd air was $29.5 plus tax. We added slide toppers and JT Strongarms at the dealer to that.
