2016 Rockwood Minilite 2306 - Murphy Bed issues

Took the trailer out of storage, used it on the long weekend. Found there is a hole in the floor where the Murphy bed feet meet the floor. I am waiting for the Dealer to respond on what they are going to do to repair this.

Any ideas why the foot on the bed would go through the lino and the plywood?

There is a small design flaw based on my opinion. If you try to sit on the bed, like propped by the wall and 2 adults sit. The Murphy bed has the tendency to close. The front is like a flap and moves according to gravity. When the "Oh Crap!" comes up, it will slam down and the front is not perfectly aligned with the bed (90 deg). Might end up in moving the legs and adding uneven pressure. Happened to me, the front leg was not 90 deg was like 80~70ish, canted.

I think; FR needs to address this issue by some sort of a locking mechanism on the Murphy bed to keep the bed down.

To me, seems that is the problem.

I would agree on the design flaw. There does need to be a lock, as well as something to stop the pillows from falling off the head of the bed. I have emailed the pictures to the dealer I purchased it from. I will see what they say

Just got back from a week long trip. The feet of the murphy bed are starting to make a imprint on the floor on the street side. The side by the door was ok because we keep towels and rugs there. I would highly recommend that anyone with a Murphy bed put some kind of pad under the feet. Jay

the picture of the holes in the floor are on the street side too. My plan is, I am going to put a matt across the camper now to help cushion it. and possibly remove the small rubber feet and replace it with felt the whole size of the wooden foot. That should spread the force across more sq inches.

We removed the metal feet and covered with felt furniture pad they do not seem to leave indentations, our murphy bed has a strap that goes from head to foot that keeps pillows and blankets in place.

Ours has the strap as well, but that's just for stowing the bed and it doesn't work when you are sleeping in the bed

Yes, is a problem for pillows falling behind. I bought the 2 biggest pillows that I can find and use them as headboard. So far so good.

As far the bed closing while sitting on it? We just keep in mind one person can sit at the time for now, until we find a good solution.

We use a mattress pad to fill the space at the head of the bed, to keep the pillows from falling behind. And my wife and I will both sit upright, leaning against the front wall of the camper, while drinking coffee and watching the news in the mornings and have not had any problems with the bed trying to close.

avenger532, I have yet to sleep in my new 25KS murphy bed. (got it last Friday) I'm thinking the rubber foot is too small and is focusing all the weight on that one spot. I think its a design flaw that should have been evident a long time ago by the manufacturer. I'm going to stop on my way home tonight to pick up a larger rubber foot. I going to follow this thread to see how you made out. Please let us know.

Thanks for the info...that the first thing I'm going to check when we head down to Fort Stevens, Oregon this weekend.

We have a large rug underneath but it wouldn't hurt to remove the round feet and add some felt pads instead.

We also use large pillows up against the back wall to keep things from falling down.

Does anyone have any idea how to clean underneath that area or access it....our outside storage cabinets on the outside do not go thru so we cannot get underneath to clean.

I would agree. The foot is approx 1 sq-in. With 2 people on the bed the weight in one spot is probably approx 200 psi.

I got an email from Rockwood. They want me to being it into the dealer for them to have a look. I will be taking it in after the weekend.

So the original headboard was 4" tall and pretty much just kept the mattress from sliding down
The new one is 12" and keeps my pillows from sliding up Click image for larger version

I'm going to have to take a look at mine. I don't recall mine having any kind of "headboard." What we'd like to do is "fill the gap" at the head of the bed so the pillows would be in the area of the gap and effectively make the bed longer. Maybe if that "headboard" was made so it would fold down into the gap.

The headboard eliminates the gap entirely. At the top of the headboard the gap between it and the wall is maybe an inch.

When our bed is down, there is an approximate 8" gap between the head of the bed and the wall. We would like to use this gap to effectively make the bed longer. You seem to have a much narrower gap.

I have the same gap but making a taller headboard and the slope of the wall eliminates the gap. The wall is sloped 6" in on a 12" rise.
