2019 Rockwood 2888ws

Hello Forum

How are you guys doing?

I'm from switzerland and bought this week a 2019 Rockwood UL 2888ws!

It will be delivered in January to Switzerland and then i have to make some conversions to fit our voltage (230 vs. 110 V).

Wich one of you know this floorplan?
How do you like it?
What i have to take care on?

Thanky for every input.

Best regards
Michael

welcome to FRF!

i see that you have a Nissan Navara, which is similar to our Nissan Frontier.
i hate to say it, but even by European standards, that's way too much trailer for your tow vehicle.
the 2888WS exceeds the truck's max tongue capacity and max towing capacity.

Hello bikedan

I know, its tight but will work :-)

I checked all the weights.

And we plan to have the 5er most of the time set up on a campside and travel less. We use it as a tiny house and will live in it. Just for hollydays we will pull it with the Nissan arround Europe.

Do you know the floorplan 2888ws? any problems with Rockwood in general?

Well at least he is in Europe and not driving near me because that is an accident waiting to happen. That setup is so overweight it. Just stay on your side of the ocean.

Give the guy a break. He just joined here and he is just getting started with his adventure. I am sure he will begin to look around and learn what is and what should never be with the help of people here. He may try to tackle towing with his proposed setup, but I’m sure he will learn from that, too.

Michael: welcome to the forum. I suggest you dig deep into previous discussions here regarding towing, and consider all of the advice from the many experienced and helpful people here. Don’t be discouraged if your current plan won’t work because you will eventually find a solution. Try to keep your safety and the safety of all others paramount, then go out and enjoy yourself.

I don't see anywhere that a king bed is an option for that model.

Does that mean you can't put one in?... I don't know but it appears you'd have to make modifications to the cabinets at the head of the bed. A king bed adds about 5" to either side of the bed and from online photos, it appears the standard queen bed is tight against the counter/cabinet. Looks like it would be a tight squeeze walking around it too if it were a king.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new R/V.
That is a nicely appointed 5th wheel.
Let us know how you enjoy camping with it in Switzerland.

Here is a link to a 360º 'virtual tour' if you haven't already seen it.

Not familiar with the 2888WS but I owned a smaller Rockwood for 10 years.
It was very well built and great trailer for the price point.
By the way, we've spent time in your spectacular country twice.
Our favorite place was Lucerne, with Interlaken a close second.

If you're willing to tell us, I'd be interested to know what they charged you to ship it to Switzerland. Seems like it would be pretty expensive.

Looks like 1 Swiss Franc is essentially 1 dollar on today's exchange. (1CHF = $1.00154)

Hy rockfordroo

I bought it from a swiss dealer.

He is in charge for the following things:

He order buy it from the factory.
He has a guy in Elkhard to check the 5er.
He does the transport from the factory to a harbour in Holland and picks it up there and drive it to Switzerland.
He change the electric system from 110 V to 230 V.
He replaces all the electric pluges to the swiss system.
He ad a mechanical Handbreake (its a law here to have one on each trailer).
He does all the paperwork and clean the rig.

I could get one in the US for $ 36'000.-
I pay arround $ 75'000.-

I will get some extras included a Solar panel, mobile waste water tank and a stand to support the hitch when nther is no tow vehicle under the 5er. Also a sewer hose and some other parts are included.

Hope this deal is not toooooo bad?

Michaijl:

I didn't realize it would need as many modifications as you list; but they make sense.

So it doesn't sound like they don't list the transport cost separately. I'm guessing that transport is a major portion of the price increase; you've got to haul it from Elkhart to the east coast, put it on a boat across the Atlantic, and then another haul from Holland to Switzerland. The mods don't sound "too" expensive.

Thanks for the info; it's one of those pieces of information that's not too useful (I don't expect to ship a trailer overseas anytime soon!), but is very interesting.

Hope you have a great time with it.

We bought a 2888ws in January early Park took delivery in the middle of the month and headed to Florida. We stopped off at the Okefenokee swamp and the first time we turned on the kitchen sink we heard water running under the cabinet in the island. apparently the dealer final check did not include making sure all the water connections were secure and tight.
the one caution I would make sure that your black tank had at least an inch of water in it before you flush any paper down we had a serious clog that took a digester 48 hours to unclog it. We have been using it and dry camping pretty much and we're not flushing enough water to clear the pipe in the black tank.
other than those few things make sure you know how to operate the heater and all of the other accoutrement. we have been enjoying our camper since the middle of January, been on the road in Florida and it seems to be well insulated. Of course the temperatures never really got below 35 even on the coldest nights.the propane heater was able to keep up with the outdoor temperatures and we were very toasty warm. I would like to see a larger hot water tank in the camper, the five gallons is used up very quickly.
good luck with your camper I think you chose an excellent product to enjoy camping in.

Is there a way to easily see which model you have - 300 vs 310?

Oh, OK. I didn’t realize that a porcelain toilet isn’t standard in the 2xxx series Rockwood Ultra Lites.
