2109s cargo capacity seems low

My wife and I are considering the 2109s Mini Lite. We love the floor plan, but I'm looking for feedback from owners about the cargo capacity. We don't tend to carry a lot of cargo in my opinion but it is surprising how fast weight mounts up. Would some of you 2109s owners tell me your experiences on this subject.

We have found the storage capacity on our 2109s to be quite adequate.
The front storage compartment is fairly large. It carries our water hose, elec. cable, side leveling blocks, sewer & drain hookups, a slop bucket, 2 small folding plastic tables, the grill, a door mat, 2 plastic tubs - one for tools and the other for canned food & such and a dirty laundry basket.
There is a good amount of room behind the sofa. We put a couple reusable shopping bags back there with snack food, dog food, extra shoes etc.
The end of the bed lifts up for more storage. This area is good for linens & quilts.
The inside cabinetry & refrigerator are really excellent for a trailer this size. We just returned from a 2 week trip and only stopped to shop once just for a half gallon of milk and coffee creamer.
I carry our 2 outside folding chairs in the back of my truck but they could just as well go on the bed in the trailer. Also in the truck bed is a large plastic tub holding our hiking gear and a rack for our bicycles.
Our 14 lb dog goes in his travel crate behind the driver's seat.
The sewer hoses store in the rear bumper. I added velcro straps over the bumper plugs to keep the plugs from vibrating out.

653lbs CCC does seem very low to me even for just two people.

Pots, pans, bedding, fans, flashlights, towels, toiletries, coffee maker!!!

Electric cords, extension cords, step ladders....


It's usually just my husband and me but I'd bet if I hauled everything out of my TT it would be 500 pounds or more and I just did a purging of stuff I don't use when I bought a new TT.

Are things like awnings and AC units and other options like TVs and microwaves included in that number?

It says:

CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity) ** – is the amount of weight available for all fluids, occupants, cargo, additional optional equipment and accessories. CCC is equal to GVWR minus UVW. Available CCC should accommodate fresh potable water (8.3lbs per gallon).
**Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

additional optional equipment and accessories would worry me most.

My Feb 2015 brochure says it has a 904 lb CCC. See pdf attached.

Remember, that brochure CCC doesn't include the weights of the following:
awning, oven, spare tire, a/c, battery and so on.
So that lowers the brochure CCC. My actual CCC was 400lbs lower than the brochure CCC.

We bought a 2015 2109S last September. We really like it. Storage seems to be enough. I bought a truck side tool box with a polished diamond plate finish that matches the front. I mounted it behind the propane tanks on the tongue. I put the battery in it and leveling blocks, wheel chocks, jack handle, tools and other dirty stuff. Easy access and makes more room for other stuff.

The dry weight listed on my 2109s is 3823 lbs.
The dealer told me that this was the actual weight of the trailer as it stood in the lot.
This makes sense to me since I don't believe the trailer is even available without the AC or spare tire, etc.
My option list when we purchased was limited to a gas oven, SS appliances, power awning & jack, interior fabrics and cherry or hickory wood, none of which would have much effect on the weight.
The warning on the label says not to load more than 944 lbs and it mentions how much a gallon of water weighs with the implication that one should not tow with a full 30 gallons of water on board.
I know some manufacturer's weights are very misleading.
I had a TrailManor 3124 KS with a supposed dry weight of 3200 lbs.
I had it professionally weighed at a rally once and the actual weight was 4600 lbs. I did add 3 batteries, 2 90 watt solar panels and a catalytic heater and the trailer was loaded for camping but the water & waste tanks were empty.
I have not had the Rockwood weighed so I do not know if we exceed the recommended limits.

Dave1958: Can you share with us a photo or exact name of the "tool box" you place behind the propane tanks? Thats a great idea?

We have taken our 2109s on many long weekend camping trips and two much longer trips-- one 6000 mile trip and one 3500 mile trip, with no issues as to adequate storage. We tow with a mid-size SUV, and between the SUV (with back seat folded down) and the trailer storage, we have enough room for everything we want to take. We are currently on a trip up the Alaska Highway to Alaska, and I admit for this trip we added a Thule storage box to the roof for all the extra stuff people recommend (like an additional spare tire and other back-up stuff that it might be hard to find on a trip like this). I think I would dispense with this for future long trips in the US, but now that we have it, who knows? In any case, we love the size of this trailer and would not trade it for having more storage.

Evergreen49, The box is a Kobalt from Lowe's. It's a side box for mounting on bed sides. Having trouble getting pictures to post. I have them downloaded on my laptop.

The dry weight typically didn't include adding powered awning, outside BBQ etc the only way give sure, stop on the way home a weight the trailer before you load it up. My dry weight was stated the same as yours. The actual was 3,987 lbs. added mods and travel items that stay in TT, 4,210 lbs.
