2304DS

Hi everyone! Looking for some feedback from owners/admirers/critics...lol of the Rockwood 2304DS? Thinking of moving up from a popup and came across this floorplan. We really like the murphy bed concept and it seems from the drawing to have a good amount of floor space. Thanks for any and all thoughts on this unit.

I've neither owned one nor even seen one but one of the things I think about when evaluating a floor plan is accessibility or usability with the slide(s) in. I consider the ease of access while prepping the trailer while is storage. I also consider the potential for an overnight stop while traveling without unhitching or opening the slide (e.g., WalMart).

Your views on the importance of that may very well differ but, if evaluated from that perspective, the kitchen sinks are inaccessible with the kitchen slide in. The Murphy bed isn't usable with the dinette slide in. However, if I were planning an overnight parking lot stay while on the road, we'd probably make up the U dinette for sleeping before we left the previous camp.

I personally love this floor plan and almost bought it, but hubby really wanted the outdoor kitchen so we ended up buying the new model 2507S Mini Lite which we pick up May 1st.
However when we looked at the 2304DS we had the salesperson close the slides and access was good to everything but as the above poster aside not to the kitchen sink and the inability to use the Murphy bed while traveling. We love the slam latches as we have those on our 5th wheel. We also are getting way more storage capacity in the 2507S in addition to the outside kitchen. However we will be unable to use the Murphy bed while travelling also.

We have the 2304ks. We love it. Yes, you have to run the slide out to access pretty much anything easily. I leave the slide open at home so no problem. I don't see Walmart camping in our future so really no problem. If I did I would just run the slide out. It's only 24 inches. We have not used the bathroom on the road yet either. Very hard to get to with the slide in. I will just run the side out in a parking lot if I need to access anything like the bathroom. Usually we just use a truck stop or gas station restroom.
The layout of the 2304ds and ks are so nice for the length of the trailer. You actually have a nice couch and watch tv and then a wonderful queen bed at night. Look at all the trailers where you have to sit sideways to see the tv!!!! We also have a large bathroom and great panty storage. Of the many, many trailers we looked at in the size and weight, this was the winner. The 2304ds was a great one too.

We went from a pop up to the 2304ks last fall and immediately went camping for 3 weeks. I has just amazed me how much it is like a small home or apartment.
Everything is well layed out and convenient you really don't feel inconvenienced at all. The big bathroom with 2 storage closets really help.

Not sure why the kitchen sink, specifically, must be accessible when the bathroom sink is accessible? What cant you do in the bathroom sink? If you just need to wash your hands, or get a cup of water, or whatever, I would think having any sink is acceptable, even if the sink is in the bathroom.

2304DS purchase

Wife and I fell in love with the 2304DS floor plan as soon as we saw it. She wanted the larger kitchen space offered that similar sized trailers lacked. We thought the murphy bed was a good idea and we also get the sofa with excellent TV viewing from both the bed and sofa. Ordered ours in Oct/2016 and was delivered to RV Wholesalers a week ago. We pick it up in first week of April. Can't wait. Plan on staying at Indian Lake State Park for the first few nights to make sure everything works OK and then camp on our way back to NJ. Hope it is everything it's cracked up to be.

You may want to remove the round "foot" on the bottom of the Murphy Bed leg and replace it with something larger. Some folks have put a larger diameter, but similar foot on theirs. Others (myself included) simply removed the foot, then cut some stick-on felt the same shape as the bottom of the leg and stuck it on the leg. The idea is to increase the surface area bearing on the floor; this will reduce the pressure per square inch of each leg on the floor and prevent puncturing the floor.

On the other hand, in your case, since it's a recent build, you may be getting the "new" 5/8" plywood floor, so it may not be an issue for you.

Murphy bed leg problem

Yes, I have heard about the wearing out of the floor below the murphy bed legs. Did not know that they have revised the floor on newer models. I will modify the legs as you have suggested to spread out the weight on the floor a bit. Thanks for the info.

Any idea when the factory made the change to the flooring?

I believe (don't quote me) that someone in another thread said they were starting in Fall 2016. Maybe someone with more specific knowledge can chime in.

Good plan. We did that last year and it worked out great. That will give RVW a chance to resolve any issues before you go home.

We throw a couple of furniture coasters under the legs when we put down the bed. They are round, thick plastic with felt on the bottom. It distributes the weight better than the small rubber foot that is on there.

That is probably what we will do regardless of whether they have changed the floor or not. Why take a chance for the sake of buying a few cheap coasters.

Pass-through dimensions?

I am picking up my new 2304DS in March and am planning for the items I'll need to put in the outside storage areas. I'd like to use some small tote boxes for storage in the pass-through storage in the front of the trailer, under the murphy bed, but I'd like to know the dimensions of the entry doors and clearance for both the interior framing and height of the storage area. Can anyone help with some dimensions?

Unless there has been design changes, there is no pass thru storage. My 2304 DS has two front storage compartments on door side. One is area under shelved cabinet next to bed and second one is by side of Jack knife sofa. My sofa has pull out storage under it that would block any pass thru storage. Road side has one front storage that is space under the bed side cabinet on that side. Again, no pass thru.

Rockwood 2304DS pass thru

The newer 2304DS does have a pass through now. Earlier models did not, not sure what year that changed but the 2017 does have a small pass thru. Can't tell you what size it is because I don't pick mine up until April.

The floor plan has been redesigned. Here is the current floor plan image from the FR website and it clearly shows the pass thru. Further, One of the I watched shows the pass thru very clearly (see the 4:00 and 8:00 minute marks; I have no affiliation with this dealership). The space runs under the sofa and is also accessible from the inside by lifting the sofa seat. I'd really like to know the dimensions from the outside doors so I can get some tote boxes to store some of my travel gear.

Sorry, you are correct on the pass thru. My son works for a dealer and verified the new 2017 models do have the pass thru. They achieved that by doing away with the storage bin that used to pull out from under the couch. Other than that, it does not look like the floor plan has actually changed.
