So, the past weekend while camping at just about 9000 feet, we had to use the furnace quite a bit during the night. Our furnace seems quite loud, especially when it is shutting down. Once the system shuts off, the fan makes make sound that I can only describe as "rrrrr...rrrrr...rrrrr" It makes those sounds about 4 times getting slower/quieter until the fan completely stops. I asked the dealer about it last time I was in and said that is normal. I was in a friends Sunset Creek and theirs sounded like a normal house furnace and made no noise when shutting down. Have to take it in in a couple of weeks for a new piece of decal (still under warranty) and not sure if I should push for them to do more diagnostics on it or not. Has anyone else experienced this.

Your post does not mention the manufacturer or model number of your furnace. I have a Suburban NT-30SP furnace in my 8313ss, and it operates much like home. The fan starts, then the heat source kicks on to heat, when up to temp the heat source kicks off, the fan runs a few more minutes, then it shuts off quietly. What you describe does not seem normal, and if it were me I would pursue it. Suburban comes with a 2 years parts and labor warranty.

I don't know what may be wrong with yours, but I have seen several posts saying the the OEM circuit boards that come with the furnace tend to easily fail.

Without hearing it for myself it's hard to really tell you if what you are hearing is normal. I can tell you that RV furnaces do tend to be quite loud. In all the rigs we have owned the furnaces have never been "like home". Some rigs (newer Winnebago motorhomes) do have them installed below the floor and that would tend to cut down on the noise. The circuit board would have no effect on the fan motor noise.

Remember with an RV the individual components can be maintained and serviced by an authorized service center for that appliance rather than your selling dealer. I would find another RV service store that is an authorized repair facility for your furnace (whether suburban, or other) and take it to them to listen to. I don't tend to really trust many of the RV dealers service centers. In cases like this you are dealing directly with the appliance manufacturer for the warranty work (like suburban, Dometic, etc.) rather than FR, so you are really cutting out the middle man in the process (FR).

Thanks for the thought on going to an authorized repair center other than the dealer. I like the dealer but have, as most of you have found, that you can usually fix things easier yourself! I fixed a drawer bracket that all the "staples" came loose on under the dinette myself with screw and glue so it wouldn't come apart again.

I don't remember the Roo making this loud of a noise so will defintely take it in! Luckily the weather is warming up, so days of really needing the furnace are getting less. It also helps to have the heated mattresses, it allows me to keep the thermostat a bit lower and run it less anyway.

Amen to that Tom. It definitely is good to be handy when you own an RV. I do all my own work for the most part too. It's the only way I know it will be done better than the way it came from the factory.
